Abner Mares vs Anselmo Moreno. Oct 27th. WBC Super Batamweight title.

On Oct 13th on Showtime Abner Mares will defend his WBC Super Bantamweight title against WBA Batamweight beltholder Anselmo Moreno. Interestingly this is the same night as Donaire vs Nishioka so hopefully the winners will meet in a unification match.

How do you see Mares-Moreno going? Poll included.

 

I'm sitting on the fence on this one and predicting a draw.

 

I give Mares a lot of credit for taking this fight, however even though I went for the draw if pushed to pick one I'd go for Mares, who's 2nd victory over Agbeko proved more to me than any of Moreno's victories.

People started talking of Moreno in a p4p sense after his wide points victory over Vic Darchiyan. However a few months later Shinsuke Yamanaka also beat Darchiyan by a wide points margin but noone is talking about him. Moreno also went life and death with Nehomar Cermano a couple of years ago winning 2 narrow SD's and since then Cermano gone 1-3-1.

I do think whoever wins though is more deserving of a shot at Donaire (should he beat Nishioka) than Rigondeaux. I think Rigondeaux oppostion has been questionable overrated prospects but Mares-Moreno have beaten an elite opponent after this.

Rigo should fight a respected vetern like Montiel or Agbeko to prove he's the real deal.

 

I think people on this forum underrate Mares more due to Russell Mora shitty officating in the Showtime bantamweight final than any fault of Mares. I have him 10th on my pound for pound list.

 

Looks like Mares-Moreno is also gonna have Abril-Bogere on the undercard too.
