Against a fellow Golden Boy fighter, of Russell's talent potential, Mares won't have in house judging and ref's on his side. It would likely be a fair fight.
The poll result is not that surprising given how hyped is Garry. Garry has zero experience at the big stage and against world class opponents. It is highly unlikely that he will rise to the occasion and beat a p4p guy while at such huge disadvantage experience wise. Mares has very solid fundamentals, he is very versatile and able to adapt to his opponent. Russell has advantage in speed, power and he is the natural FW albeit not a very big one. All this in my mind equals a 7-5, 8-4 type of decision for Mares at this point. The fight is too early for Russell and too much of jump in competition.
Keep in mind that mares victories at 122 were against an old veteran who retired right after and a 118 fighter who moved right back to BW after the fight. Russell jr is a legit ( unproven ) featherweight .
So what now Moreno was small hahahah. Man you are killing me. He was definitely the bigger man in the ring. They both moved recently from 118. And 75% of the people in here favored Moreno to win as the new coming of Sweet Pea. Give Mares some credit at 122.
