Someone should've reminded Abner that the power is the last thing to go.

    Mares KO1
    Hasegawa KO4
Marc Johnson KO8 (granted, Johnson was at the end of his career)
    Montiel SD12

That's a fine collection of scalps for anyone. Well done, Jhonny. :happy

Gonzalez is an underrated fighter. He is much more battle-tested than Mares and I believe a much more natural featherweight. I believe his loss to Penalosa was cutting weight. Anyways good job for Gonzalez, who is an old school type fighter with close to 60 fights in his career. Hopefully he can maybe get a crack at Chris John and earn a big payday.

Gonzalez also super classy, told Mares that he would learn from this to keep his head up. Hope Mares can bounce back, he's one of the few fighters that will fight anyone.

Did he deserve the Montiel decision? I've never seen it.

Even some of his secondary coups are impressive.

He obliterated the likes of Rogers Mtagwa and Rey Lopez in a manner few others ever could. (and those others are pretty much all super-elites)

His war of attrition with Action Jackson was not only a FOTY candidate but at the time a solid B+ victory over a scrappy fringe contender.

Pacheco? Solid former six-defense IBF champ...destroyed and battered into retirement with a septuple left hook (five downstairs and two up)

Roger "Speedy" Gonzalez was prime, undefeated, and promising and got deconstructed and KTFO.

Yes, Montiel was scared to engage. If he would have, he would have ended up a spastic on the floor like he was against Donaire (or Mares about 15 minutes ago).

Yes. Ignore the 118-111 card, but also the dissenting one.

The 116-112 judge had it about right.

    Draw at best for Cochulito.

Nah, his loss to Penalosa wasn't down to being drained - it was down to Penalosa being a master body puncher and very intelligent ring tactician.

...but yes he is underrated, and has been throughout his career.

Showtime Extreme (who aired the undercard) are replaying the main card in about two hours.
