You didn't miss them, once again they failed to show them.
Sometimes it seems they get caught up in the hoopla and forget that some of us care about stats.

Either that or the statistician lost money and got pissed off.:bbb

OMG, WHAT AN UPSET!!! Surely Gonzalez KO1 Mares is THE "Upset of the Year", and that CRUSHING left hook that sent Mares down for the first knockdown is the "Punch of the Year"!!! It seemed like Showtime were setting up for such a finish by talking about how Gonzalez had seven 1st round KO's and Mares had none, but WOW!!! Respect to Gonzalez for jumping in to finish the deal, he knew he had his best opportunity to win right there, and he took care of business!!! MUCH respect to Gonzalez, a savvy veteran who took a few losses early in his career, seemed to peak 7-8 YEARS ago, and now has blossomed again late (?) in his career with some HUGE signature wins!!! With Garcia basically officially moved up to 130 now, this makes Gonzalez THE #1 fighter in the world at 126, not bad for someone at this stage of his career!!! As for Mares, I find this result gratifying, as I haven't liked Mares since the first Agbeko fight, and I have thought Mares has always come off fraudulently, but respect to him for his postfight interview with Jim Gray, for showing class and respect for Gonzalez.

IIRC, Gonzalez came in at 116 pounds against Penalosa, two pounds under the BW limit. For a guy with his frame, I don't think he cut weight properly otherwise he should have came in at the limit. I'm not saying that to put down Penalosa's performance because JG was beating him up until the stoppage. Penalosa's bodywork did took its toll but it also showed how resiliant the guy was. Hell he wanted to keep going against Lopez when he had no shot of getting the win.

I'm with you on Penalosa, his name doesn't come up enough on being a truly great fighter but he was one and I believe he deserves to be in the HOF.

I firmly believe Penalosa has one of the best chins of the last few decades. Guy was a ****ing machine.

Also, I'd have a literal orgasm if Jhonny travelled to John's backyard and popped his cherry.

Went over to Japan and already pulled a similar trick. Hope it happens. :nut

John's legs are so far gone at this point, I would put real money on Gonzalez by KO.

I always imagined that if I was to fight Mares, the left hook would be key. A counter left hokk

    That's all reasonable. :good

Definitely a case for Gerry in the HOF.

Actually, given that he kicked off world title reign #3 tonight - and has, as illustrated earlier, about ten very good world class wins, four of them great ones against guys who might become HOF entrants themselves...I'd say there is a case to be made for Jhonny now, too..

The old warhorse saved the best for last. I thought Mares would hug or clinch just to survive the round. Credit must be given to Don Nacho for reviving Jhonny's career. The man is a sage. Mares should learn from this once he's collected his senses. I had a feeling he might of underestimated Jhonny after the PDL fight. Gonzalez was boxing ALOT smarter than he was vs Nishioka and PDL. Matter of fact Jhonny looked sharper than ever.
