The actual number of divisions isn't a problem to me, the number of belts is. In reality, their should only one world champion per weight class.

Yeah but Cruiser is a shark tank. I like seeing these guys face each other as opposed to having to fight giants that are going to impose their size.

Some things don't make much sense like there's 7 lbs between Jr WW and WW, then 6 lbs to MW, then 8 lbs to Super MW, then 7 lbs to LHW, then 25 lbs to Cruiser Weight. WTF?

A division's purpose is to ensure boxers of about the same size are competing against each other. It shouldn't matter if it's only 1/3 of a division of just 300, unlike boxers at any other weight class a significant portion of strawweights don't come down to make weight, but are at that division because they don't naturally even weigh 108 lbs, and they'd be significantly, unfairly outweighed at 112. Maybe I'm exaggerating the necessity of being fair to the smallest men who might box, but just trying not to be a sizist here.

Some might say going to fewer divisions would mean more size mismatches, but to prevent that we'd have to not just go to same-day weigh-ins, but a weigh-in system that ensured everyone was entering the ring at their natural, fit weight, and not dehydrating to make weight. That's why fewer divisions worked in the old days, and the amateurs currently.

I suppose because somebody like Vassily Jirov could KO somebody like Nicolai Valuev but if somebody like Nicolai Valuev simply used his size to lean on somebody like Jirov and exhaust him, it wouldn't be very fair. Whereas if somebody like Valuev leaned on somebody like Lennox Lewis it may not be an effective tactic to gain an unfair advantage.

Well he'd either leave or be forced to get his fat ass into shape. Either way the sport is better off.

Me too. But if there's a weight cap on the heavies then cruisers could still have a chance.

215 vs 240 isn't an insurmountable weight difference to overcome if you're good enough and many cruisers could easily compete in the 220s if they had to.

Just swap the names of Cruiser and Light Heavy around and that would make me happy , it just doesn't sound right as it is !

At one time the cruiserweight division was also called the junior heavyweight division. I don't know why the quit calling it that.
