jones had one fight at heavy and his chin didn't show until he went back down in weight. jones didn't have the movement???? i think frazier wins too but your points are not good.
Mismatch. Frazier would eat his cornflakes out of Jonses skull. In practice Jones would be far to astute to take the fight.
If Jones is lucky he gets caught cleanly early and goes to sleep. If he somehow manages to avoid getting hit cleanly enough on the jaw, his body would be in for one of the most brutal beatings ever seen and he would probably never recover.
If he gets knocked around by Tarver, theres no doubt he loses to most good heavies, by knockout, no doubt about it. It's just not Jones' weight. Yeah he had movement. And thats the thing. We're all going by one fight here so how can you think he's so good against an average guy like Ruiz. Against Frazier he gets slaughtered without a doubt. there's a reason he only had one fight, you know. because he knew he couldn't compete against real good heavyweights that were around at the time. so he decided to beat a limited heavy like Ruiz to pick up a belt. not enough to merit a chance against Frazier or any good heavyweight.
Frazier utterly destroys rjj, body attack then up to the head first good left hook and rjj gets carried out to ambulance.
Joe wasn't that nice, and never a one punch kind of guy at the world class level. (Bob Foster and Ziggy were the closest he ever got to this.) I do agree that the first good hook sends him sprawling, like it did Ziggy, but then he beats on him a little before the kill. Very possible that Roy doesn't hear the bell to end round one. (He'd definitely be hearing a bell though, assuming he hears anything.)
I think Jones at heavyweight in 1996 - 99 would have been great. Of course, for Holyfield it would have been a no-win situation fighting RJJ before Jones has whipped any heavyweights. We can only speculate on what Jones was capable of. Personally I think he would have had a good chance against Holyfield at that time, and an even better chance against Tyson or Moorer at that time. I obviously rate his chances better than most here. However, I don't feel it's at all out of order to say the Frazier who beat Ali would have been too much for Jones, no doubts whatsoever. As for Quarry, I would give RJJ a good chance against any version of Jerry. I mean, Jimmy Ellis beat him, and an old Eddie Machen beat him ....... I reckon a prime Jones would have to stand a very strong chance.
If there is one fight I would bet my absolute life on, this would be a candidate. Absolutely no shot what-so-ever. Not even a little bit.
Roy Jones is in my top 10 all time favourite fighters, but anyone suggesting he could beat Joe Frazier is off their ****ing head.
he didn't fight tarver at heavy. he went back down to light heavy to fight him. how do you not know that but still post here. as far as not facing good heavyweights, jones was in talks to fight lewis after ruiz. lewis is the one who backed out. not because he was ducking roy but he retired. see link below. and to shake, please stay out of the casinos. if you started betting your life i have a feeling you wouldn't be around very long. http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/03/s...rematch.html?scp=9&sq=roy+jones+lennox&st=nyt
Please, kmac- Lewis would have destroyed Jones and both fighters knew it. Just because they talked on the phone doesn't mean squat. Jones knew better. Why didn't he stay at heavy to fight easier pickings? Hde surely would have gotten more money fighting at heavy, even if it was against ranked fighters not named Lewis...Truth is that he knew better than to stick around there.
