No. Chavez has like 6 losses and some Draws. People rag on Marciano's competition but Chavez was fighting some awful opponents as champion. To break the record you have to retire as THE champion undefeated.
I believe Roc had 6 title defenses. He was 29 years old before he got a title shot, won the title and promptly retired 3 years later. We will never know how long he would have reigned.
If numbers meant anything on their own, you could argue Brian Nielsen had a better career than Tyson, who fought more and loss less fights than Tyson. Careers are to be evaluated more thoroughly and old champs who "fought anyone, anywhere, anytime" can hardly be matched by modern fighters.
For me it doesn't really come down to the Marciano record, because Mayweather has already surpassed it in terms of quality. The true test would be where in the list he would be in terms of fighters who were undefeated in title fights. Mayweather is what, 25-0? From memory, the only fighter I can think of with a record close to that and still undefeated is Ricardo Lopez but I think he has a draw on his CV too.
Floyd is greater than Marciano so is Ali, SRR and many many more so i dont get why his record is mentioned, Finito Lopez retired 51 0 i guess its because Rocky is American.
The difference for both Floyd and Marciano is the amount of fights/rounds they had as true lineal champion of a weight class.
