First off share your boxing experience if you wish too as i havent seen a thread done like this before and then what is your thought's/experience with your trainer as im sure there are many stories out there that never get told etc but
What is your relationship with your coach and what should your relationship be

I started boxing back when i was just before 7(got beat up in a 2v1 street fight) i was scared first time going into the gym it was small and only a few bags a square ring made out of rope and that's about it there was only around 10 boxers the youngest 14 at the time and thoughout the years i got a good beat down by the older boxers but they never took it too wild by the age of 11 i held my own with the older boxers which were older then myself and i felt my trainer saw this in me the club i was with was growing all the time and had many coaches over my career but only 2 main trainer's i had my first fight when i was 12 and i lost that which was great for me as i learnt so much from that first bout i went on a run of win's from that point onwards i was doing good and had a great career ahead of myself i had my last fight aged 15/16 in a tournament final and i just froze and faked i was hurt and the fight got stopped in round 1 afterwards i asked myself why and since i have always thought why did i do that what i did and even today that still haunts me the bond i had with my two coaches was good i learned everything i knew from the main coach he was young and fit the 2nd coach a much older coach which taught me just as much but how to be outside the ring aswell as in it he was like a old uncle/grandad and would do anything for him the problem i had which they both knew at the time i could at the gym beat anyone they put in with me even young men back when i was 14 15 but i didnt preform as i could at boxing shows and they tried so much to put confidence in me but it never worked i owe everything i know to my old coach i still go down to the club to talk about boxers we knew which have turned over aswell as the old time's and he still always brings up the fact i just didnt have the confidence to preform as i could of which we both laugh at.The realtionship i had with my coach was nothing but the best i believe a coach should know you inside out and should have a father-son relationship inside & outside the ropes

i started boxing 2 years ago cause i needed points for physical education on my college and i also wanted to learn box cause i always loved to watch it.

Also i had many street fights before and always had my ass kicked :D so i needed to build my confidence, discipline and all that. Soon i felt in love with the boxing training

and now i am searching for some serious boxing club and i hope i will have my first bout in a year. :bbb

Joined a boxing gym 2 yrs ago, the first thing I asked my coach was, what can you offer for someone who has no interest in competing? Only one year after, I began training with the team and started competing. And that's the long of the short. I'm obsessed with boxing.
I go to sleep thinking about it, and sometimes, I wake myself up because my arms twitch while i'm asleep, it's frickin crazy.

I was already in shape when I joined (looks wise), but when I first stepped in a ring and sparred, I realized I was way too slow and fat and clumsy. So became motivated to train harder and before I knew it, I was keeping up with the younger guys.
Doesn't sound extremely impressive, but i've never been tough, or athletic and for that matter - never joined a sports team or had a gym membership before. So this is kind of a 180 for me. I've had someone ask me if i've been doing it for several years, or get compliments on my physique. Sorry if that sounds conceited...lol. I'm really not, my only point is that i've never been remotely athletic before, and boxing has been a huge revelation for me. The idea that I could participate in this sport (after being a casual fan for years and thinking it was the hardest sport ever to compete in), and actually being able to win fights is a huge blessing and I am grateful that I can do it.

I started boxing with my father at the age of 3...

Trained like that till 14 maybe, however there was no growing in technique, mostly physical: running, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups... I used successfully my skills twice in street fighting.

At 14-17 I needed to focus on my study to enter University. Also, because of lack of growth, I started suspecting problem with my father's coaching. He was neither really pushing me nor building his knowledge further. We quarreled a lot of times...

From 18 to 21 I was busy at the university. Did other sports like athletics, soccer, and basketball. At 21 I decided to go back to boxing. Joined university boxing. Within half a year I recovered all I knew...and realized how actual low was my level. That made me even more upset with my father's coaching.

It first started badly. I got immediately many traumas. My ankles ached, knee joints did not feel nice. I had elbow problem that did not allow me use straight punches properly for almost a year... Nevertheless, I did not give up. I build up more knowledge about boxing and eventually overcame all problem.

Finally, at 22-23 I trained 5-6 times a week, ran 3-4 times a week. Had several fights. However, I was always dissatisfied with my technique level.
Before I joined university boxing, I learnt technique myself, picked up some Tyson's moves. But at boxing school they quickly "broke" me. "You do not do this right, that is wrong, etc". I believed my coaches back then... I relearnt some technique and thought I was doing fine. Then we visited some other schools and I realized that my technique is far from proper. It is not that I did it wrong, no. I was just taught wrongly. Damn, same crap as in university and schools: the coach himself was not really a specialist. He was a good boxer himself long ago...but this does not make him automatically a good coach. What pissed me off the most was that at the end he did not really care...

This forced me to change several boxing gyms. At the end I trained at about 10 gyms. That enriched my experience greatly. Meanwhile, I realized that nobody knows everything. Now, at 27 , I decided to learn boxing to become a coach one day, hopefully, avoiding mistakes and wrong attitude of playing in experts that my father and other coaches had.

I am running a website where I gather knowledge from proper sources (not simply my opinions) and gather them in one place to use one day. Still training and sparring occasionally.

I have a good relationsip with my coach. He's sort of a father figure among the team and he trusts me enough to lead some of our classes (for the non-competing members). Understandably most of the younger fighters get more coaching attention but he's a fine trainer. I'm in my 30s so my potential is extremely limited and my skills are only about average. Although i look much younger and I work hard so I am well equipped to compete in the 19+ class.
For me, a recent separation and a long overdue dream of "dabbling" in the sport got me interested in joining.
