Abraham is very much like Clottey, but more in your face. It's pretty much as simple as, he's defending, he's attacking. From an out of ring perspective it's...you know when he's defending, and you know when he's attacking. When I was boxing amateur, I used to shake my left hand before I used to throw it (I was a southpaw)...before I corrected it. This is very similar to Abraham in my opinion. You know when he is going to be on the offense, he is very predictable. He will stand there, pretty much let you unload..believing you will give him the opportunity to to catch you with a big right, left hook and it will be game over. Froch fought a very good bout!!!
Amazingly, it's taken a guy like Froch (and Dirrell) to really expose him for the limited fighter he is. Like you've just said, Anthony, he can only do one thing at a time. Either cover up and remain dormant, or launch an aggressive barrage of punches. Nothing in between. No countering. No change of pace. Nothing. Wait till we see what Ward does to him next.
Do you remember just before the Super 6, and after the Taylor bout Rico..."no-one can beat Abraham"...? I was kinda drawn into it myself...but a boxer, and a person who everyone didn't believe could box has shown how limited Abraham is. Brilliant disciplined performance by Froch.
He could just continue the attack and try to win it. Heck he is more powerful. He got the chance. The problem with fighters nowadays is they are very afraid to get knocked out. They rather get schooled and look amateurish than get KO'ed.
Scorecard. Froch Abraham. 10-9 10-9...workrate alone. 9-10 10-9 10-9 10-9...clearest round. 10-9...Froch dominant, even more-so than last round. 10-9...only seen last 2 minutes, but Froch won the round. 10-9 10-9...I don't think Froch realized how much he hurt Abraham with the bodyshot. Froch was comfortably on the front foot after said bodyshot. 10-9 Great bodyshots from Froch. 10-9. 119-109...Froch.
Yeah I remember that. Although I did actually pick Dirrell to exploit Abraham's lack-lustre mentality, I honestly didn't think he was that one-dimensional. By the 7/8th round tonight, my brother echoed your words by turning to me and saying "It's crazy how Abraham's managed to get this far in his career, considering how limited he actually is". I brushed aside the comment, thinking Abraham will turn up the heat and take it to Froch. But nothing. He remained like that for the rest of the fight. :-(
That's pretty much what I had, mate. The 3rd round was the closest, but even that I gave to Froch. It was a complete 120-108 for me.
Yeah, on a couple of occasions, Froch could have upped the pace and pushed for a TKO...it was only the last round that Froch looked worried about Abraham's power. And in my opinion, Froch could have probably taken 1 or 2 big right hands and still won the bout.
I think people concentrated too much on the KO's. This forum was dominated by the KO's when he entered the Super 6. Is it a rematch next do you know?
Abraham will have to put up with Ward now, whilst Froch defends his new WBC title against Johnson. So expect a Ward-Froch final.
There really are no excuses to make. I was an Abraham-fan going into this fight, wishing for an Abraham win. But Froch, with massive credit to him, had other plans.
