What if Abraham hadn't been DQ'd in his fight against Dirrell? And what if they had a rematch after the Super Six?
Both great what-ifs...but we'll never know. Even if they rematch now (which, come to mention it - wtf better options do either of them currently have? May as well...) it won't really tell us how the rest of that night would've gone or an immediate rematch had the foul not happened back when they were both closer to 'peak'. Abraham has been exiting his prime throughout his 168lb run and since Dirrell has gone 5-3 in the division with all three losses being pistol-whippings so there wouldn't be much credit for Dirrell in racking up a second victory now - especially not stacked against the risk when his record already shows one. Dirrell obviously will always have the asterisk following him; if they were to rematch and Dirrell to get KTFO now there would be the built-in excuse of him never being the same from that foul and the neurological damage...
Abraham was on his way to ktfo that glass jaw disgrace when the fake injury occurred . No rematch needed, we've seen all there is to see at Dirrell and hope we'll never see him again.
That kind of applies to both. They're equally irrelevant now...especially depending on the result of Abraham vs. Shihepo, should it not be a fortuitous one for AA... (being the first to knock Shihepo out might put him back in the mix, but anything else? A boring or controversial decision? A loss? - which is possible if he takes Shihepo lightly. Major setback...)
-Dirrell wins a decisive UD in the fight -Dirrell withdraws after to avoid Ward fight in hopes of bigger paydays, which was said by his team even among the "medical issues." -Abraham is not affected positively or negatively in terms of future performances.
