I feel like they're still on a collision course. it's really interesting when the paths of two fighters are initially set to meet, and even after both paths stray wildly, they're still somehow set on a course for one another.
Hes got power and heart, average boxing skills. I gave the fight to Lopez by one point. I know its unfair but watch Hopkins vs Pavlik. Master vs novice in terms of scientific boxing and skill. I am a fan of Pavlik though.I like Pavlik by stoppage against Chavez jr though.
It sounds more like you're describing Abraham himself than Pavlik. Pavlik has an above average jab and 1-2, and as we saw against Jaco he's brushing the dust off his left hook and using it effectively as well. He isn't terrible defensively. Overall, I think calling his boxing skills average is a tad harsh. It isn't as though he's ever been a mauler with no technical finesse to his game. Even when he was knocking guys out on the way up he was doing so in a measured way and executing strategy rather than just spray-n-pray.
i'm a big pavlik fan, but you gotta admit he gets hit with big shots at or near the top level, and I don't think he has the defense to avoid all of arthur abraham's powerful spurts.
I believe Pavlik has better boxing skills than Abraham, but I was never impressed by Pavliks technical skills. I havent seen all of his fights though. I will oblige though Ghost has good technical skills not great. Like I said not really fair because Hopkins is such a master. I wanna see Ghost get his career back on track he certainly has the "it" factor. I hope he stays sober cause I believe he was out on his feet in the first taylor fight. His skills were good enough to beat Sergio, although that didnt happen.
Not if Abraham is in classic sulking (Im not going to punch mode). This is very possible due to Pavlik's height and reach advantage, those "powerful spurts" will come once every 6 rounds which is not enough due to Pavliks fairly good chin and toughness
i've only seen that against guys slick enough to avoid abraham and frustrate him as a result. you may be right though, pavliks height and reach could cause the same sort of frustration.
Arum was holding Jr out as a carrot to get Kelly back down to 160 but Roach, after initially OK'ing the fight, decided not to take it. This happened after Kelly turned down the rematch with Martinez at 160 deciding he was through with the weight. It still sounds like Arum is offering the same carrot and REALLY wants Kelly back at MW. So, yeah, after Chavez the TR stable is kinda thin on MW's.
It.s funny, that fighters don't get the respect when they steps up. Abraham at 160 joined a 168 tournament and only lost to the best...............
Abrahm outgrew 160 a long time before he started fighting at 168. His list of opponents at 160 isn't going to even get him nominated to the HOF.
I would rather Kelly fight Abraham instead of Bute in September. Abraham is a good step up , but still should be a fight Pavlik can win pretty easy. I don't know why the Chavez fight is not happening anymore thats the fight I really wanted for him. I don't think Abraham would get as many chances to land as some people think and Pavliks chin is great along with his ability to recover. I think Pavlik would keep Abraham on the outside with his jab and the occasional right hand and Pavlik would go to the body which Abraham don't like. It might not take long before Abraham is just trying to survive and cover up he has never faced a puncher like Kelly.
