With Arthur Abraham moving up to SMW and potentially being one of the six men in the new SMW tournament , and Felix Sturm tied up for now at least and never likely to get in the ring with Kelly anyway the question looms !!!!!!

Where does this leave Kelly Pavlik !!!!!!

Who are his big fight options and is he missing the boat on this SMW tourney ??????

Pav should stay at MW and fight Sturm, Williams or Mundine.

It leaves Pavlik the opportunity to have a fairly comfortable title run which, it would appear, is exactly what Arum wants for him.

Sturm a notorious cherry picker? :patsch

In the past year Sturm was the only one to fight a top5 rated MW (with #1 being Pavlik, #2 AA, #3 Sturm, #4 Sylvester), and now he's fighting the current #5 Gevor. For the 2nd year he's fighting the best opposition in his weight class while Pavlik just managed to avoid Abraham and keeps fighting the Moras, and you call Sturm the cherry picker?

    STFU NOOB!!! :deal

Pavlik will fight cans and everyone will think he's good. That money excuse doesn't wash, the man is so under par it's shocking.

BigBone, I can't believe you don't consider Felix Sturm a cherry picker. Arthur Abraham has been trying to fight him for years, but Felix wanted no part of him, preferring to fight Koji Sato, who is not nearly as dangerous as Pavlik's last opponent. Felix Sturm's best opponents have been a blown-up welterweight (Oscar De La Hoya) and a 39 year-old Javier Castillejo who was obviously past his best. Pavlik fought risky fights like Jermain Taylor, Edison Miranda and Bernard Hopkins. I can't believe you consider Sturm a legit champ.

Sturm is about to fight Khoren Gevor, who was brutally KO'd by Arthur Abraham. Sturm should be fighting Abraham.

It's possible that Sturm ducked AA, yes, but I think his opposition is on the same level as those of the other two guys.

Could you name names? Who exactly are the great boxers that Sturm has fought? Maybe I'm blind but his record is not good. Pavlik's isn't great but at least he fought Taylor, Miranda and Hopkins. Sturm only fought a blown-up Oscar and an ancient Castillejo. And Abraham would have a better record if only Sturm and Pavlik had accepted his challenges. Earnie Shavers also would have had a better fight record if Foreman and Frazier had accepted his repeated challenges.

You're right, I edited my post...not much better, not worse either...if you leave out Hopkins there's only Taylor to be considered as "better" opposition.

That leaves Pavlik at the very top of the blue collar division and reigning for a very long time. What happens is that most of these fellas say that Kelly and others were not willing to deal with them... But unlike Taylor, they never gave Kelly a shot at 160 before moving up b'cause they really couldn't make that weight anymore... Simple facts!

You can't leave just out Hopkins. Sturm fought DLH long time ago. In failry recent history Pavlik squared off with Hopkins, Taylor twice, and Miranda. That's 4 bouts with better opposition than Sturm has faced in years.

haha, not a middle he wasn't. he looked, and fought, more like a blown up featherweight at 160.

but as to the topic and i agree with the above post saying that he'll reign over the blue collar division. i see him going the marvin hagler route: putting in solid, workmanlike and dedicated years of work into the division waiting for the stars to move up to challenge him or the next great crop of middles to appear. much like hagler, if he can became a respected, ong reigning champion the fighters will line up for the shot to have him on their resume.

exactly. sturm has been putting in solid work, fighting ranked contenders (top 20 or so anyway) but sylvester is the only true threat he faced. He did well in that fight granted but other than that it's been a respectable, but very safe route for him

Could you please exlain how Koji Sato, Sturm's last opponent, was "ranked"? You guys are having hallucinations. Felix Sturm picks easy opponents just to hold on to his "title". To real boxing fans, his belt means nothing. Koji Sato beat a few Japanese bums and so Sturm picked him for his "undefeated" record. The middleweight division is a farce, just like the HW division where Valuev is the WBA "champion". If they have a SMW tournament featuring Kessler, Froch, Bute and Abraham, I'll watch that and maybe I'll like boxing again.
