If Pavlik can't get Sturm, the only decent fight out there in the next year or so is PW.

Could you please exlain how Koji Sato, Sturm's last opponent, was "ranked"? You guys are having hallucinations. Felix Sturm picks easy opponents just to hold on to his "title". To real boxing fans, his belt means nothing. Koji Sato beat a few Japanese bums and so Sturm picked him for his "undefeated" record. The middleweight division is a farce, just like the HW division where Valuev is the WBA "champion". If they have a SMW tournament featuring Kessler, Froch, Bute and Abraham, I'll watch that and maybe I'll like boxing again.

sorry, to clarify when i say ranked i mean by the alphabets. sylvester is the only true "ranked" opponents he's had. but he is fulfilling his duties and fighting relatively frequently. again, solid but not spectacular work. sturm treats this like a job: fight who i have to, win, and stay below the radar

I honeslty do not understand all the criticism of Pavlik. Lets look at a few facts.

As an amatuer he went 89-9, won multiple national titles, and was ultimately eliminated from the 2000 Olympic trials by Jermain Taylor who went on to win a bronze medal.

In his early professional career he fought anywhere from 154-170, against anybody who would get in front of him, and won 24 of his first 26 fights by KO inside 6 rounds.

His first break came in October 2005 when the WBC appointed him and Fulgencio Zuniga to fight for the vacant NABF title. The NABF title is part of the historical and traditional path to a world title shot. It's a path that Joe Frazier, Ray Leonard, Winky Wright, and many other great fighters took to the top of the sport. Zuniga was a hard nosed banger with an 85% KO ratio and only one loss. He lost a world title fight to Daniel Santos in his 12th pro fight, and no one had come close to stopping him. Pavlik stopped him in 9 rounds. Somehow people find a multitude of ways to criticize both Zuniga as an opponent, and criticize Pavlik for taking this fight. What was he supposed to do? Should he have fought cab drivers and hobos while waiting and hoping someone would choose him for a voluntary defense?

After this a career threatening hand surgery, and the requisite recovery period put Pavlik on the sidelines for 9 months. You would expect a fighter to choose a soft touch for a come back fight. Pavlik did not.

In July 2006 Pavlik fought a voluntary NABF title defense against a cagey southpaw and veteran of 54 fights. At that point Bronco McKart had some losses, but they all came at the world title level against Winky Wright, Verno Phillips, and Travis Simms. McKart, to my knowledge, had never even been seriously hurt in a fight, let alone stopped. Pavlik beat 7 shades of **** out of him in 6 rounds. McKart went on to win the NABF title after KP vacated, and fought a draw with Marquez one fight before Marquez beat Lorenzo. However, according to the critics, McKart is a bum, and Pavlik picks on no-hopers.

In January 2007 Pavlik fought the former Mexican Olympian and WBC #3 ranked contender Jose' Luis Zertuche in a WBC title eliminator. Zertuche was a hard working Mexican Warrior in the truest sense; an 80% KO ratio, never hurt, and never stopped. Pavlik beat the brakes off him, and stopped him in dramatic fashion inside 8 rounds. Here again, the critics accuse Kelly of fighting cans. What was he suppose to do? Turn down a world title eliminator against the #3 contender?

The WBC said Pavlik/Zertuche was an eliminator to decide Jermain Taylor's next mandatory, but HBO had other ideas. They wanted to make Edison Miranda their next star. Miranda was widely regarded as a monster at that time. He scored a wide UD over Allan Green, knocked out the same version of Eastman that fought a competetive 12 rounder with Abraham, and tore Abraham's face halfway off his head while sustaining a controversial loss. In May 2007 Pavlik was forced to fight a second world title eliminator against the new darling of HBO. KP went in as a heavy underdog, and beat Miranda like the proverbial red headed stepchild. At the time all the critics said Pavlik was going to get knocked out. Now they say Miranda was an over rated hype job, and this win is meaningless.

On September 29th 2007 Pavlik finally got his shot at Jermain Taylor, the undisputed, undefeated middleweight champion of the world. As Micheal Buffer said, Sombodie's "oh" had to go. After sustaining heavy damge in the 2nd round Pavlik came back out and owned Taylor in the 3rd, and ultimately scored a highlight reel KO in the 7th.

You can beat Jermain Tayor senseless, but you cannot take his heart, his soul, or his dignity. He demanded he be allowed to excersize the rematch clause in the original contract. In February 2008 Kelly Pavlik did what no other man has ever done. He scored a clear unamious decision over Taylor. Although Jermain holds 2 wins over all time great Bernard Hopkins, the critics tells us he was just an over rated HBO hype job.

On September 29th 2007 Joe Calzaghe appeared on HBO via sattelite immediately after Pavlik/Taylor I, and called Kelly out. Joe continued to call KP out for the next 6-7 months, and this created a major distraction. Somehow Frank Warren, Bob Arum, and HBO manipulated the WBO into making another Enzo Calzaghe fighter the WBO mandatory. Pavlik absolutely and unapoligetically destroyed Gary Lockett in 3 rounds. Afterward Lockett retired, Joe denied calling Kelly out, and Enzo said; "My son will never fight Kelly Pavlik." This left Kelly without a fall opponent, and the **** hit the fan.

Winky Wright accused Pavlik of ducking him, but ultimately turned down a 7 figure pay day, and a shot at the champ. Paul Williams said he wanted to fight, but Arum and Gossen got into a pissin' match over money, and that fight was called off. Rubio was already the assumed WBC mandatory, but HBO refused the fight. Ultimately Pavlik ended up fighting Bernard Hopkins at a catchweight of 170. Pavlik's physical condition going into that fight was thoroughly documented by Thomas Hauser. Hauser was an eyewitness, and based part of his report on acutal medical records. Pavlik got his ass whipped under circumstances where most fighters would have post poned the fight.

Four months later Pavlik was back in the ring. Just before Arthur Abraham struggled with a philly club fighter, and Sturm fought Koji Sato, Pavlik ***** slapped the #1 WBC mandatory challenger into submission in 9 rounds, and the only round he lost was the sixth, where he spent most of the round clowning. Rubio, known as a tough Mexican Warrior, literally started crying on his stool when his trainer tried to send him back out for the 10th.

Now, what about a unification fight with Abraham? To date, the best information indicates that Sauerlands best offer was somewhere between $750,000 and $1 million short of the amount Pavlik got for fighting Gary freaking Lockett. Abraham did not show any signs of weight drain in the Oral fight, but he's moving up even though he said he would not leave 160 without a Pavlik fight. Moreover, no one in their right mind can possibly believe that Sauerland secured Abraham's spot in the upcoming SMW tournament in the short time since the Oral fight. The bottom line is that Sauerland never negotiated in good faith, because he never wanted Arthur in the ring with Pavlik.

At present, rumours abound, but the truth is Kelly's wife just had a baby, and KP wanted the summer off. To hell with the critics and haters who seem to think KP should say "screw family life," and fight Abraham for less money than he made fighting Gary the pocket rocket Lockett.

Furthermore, if you read all the above, and you're still a Pavlik hater, you can kiss my ****** white ass!
