Ottke has always taken too much crap on this board. Masterful boxer who made the most of his abilities with superior technical skill and a strong mental game/focus.

Was also the benefactor of some epic robberies, and told the scorecards between each round when his opponent was not.

I only know of ONE epic robbery. We can discuss some other close fights but only one can really called an epic robbery.

But Ottke seems to be the the reborn satan for many users here....

This has been done over and over...the Reid fight was a farce, but many of his decisions were legit and over very good fighters: Glen Johnson, Thomas Tate, Charles Brewer, Byron Mitchell, knocked out Mundine, etc.

His resume is solid whether you liked his style or not.

Yes, that is very true. Pure boxers aren't appreciated for their accomplishments. There was little point in coming to America as the American fans wouldn't have liked him anyway.

    You have to be kidding.

Ottke's best weapons were that he was a skilled backwards runner and that his fights not only happned in Germany - they happened in his living room with his family as refs and judges (or might as well have).

He was not particularly fast, not particularly technical. Only one thing stands out and that is his mentality, but I guess it is easy to be ontop if you know that all you have to do to win is stay upright.

exactly...he was a clever "hit and run" fighter, no slugger at all. His style was a somewhat boring style, but he earned my respect.
