Why should Abraham get a title shot? He's washed up.

Also, why would ward travel to Denmark. He dominated the first fight and is the champion. Kessler wasn't even competitive

Because Kessler was the champ in Oakland.

Because of the controversy of the first fight.

Because Ward has few other options.

Bacause Ward will be paid handsomely.

This. And I dont think Abraham is washed up, either. He just got beat by three better fighters.

Ward kicked Kessler's ass so bad, there were no questions left unanswered. A rematch is pointless.

Abraham just won the WBO European SMW championship, the same minor title that had been awarded to Kessler when he fought Bouadla (with intent of fighting Stieglitz).

Boxrec still says Kessler and Stieglitz are fighting on April 14th. If Sauerland can secure a Ward fight for late spring or the summer, I wouldn't be surprised if Abraham fought Stieglitz instead using some in house clause in the contract.

Sauerland is supposedly bringing upwards of 5M to the table for it.

AA can't compete against the top dogs @168, so he should try to go down to 160. I think we've to see him in some more fights to be able to say whether he can win a world title again or not. Apart from the difference in size, he seemed to have lost his self-confidence - and self confidence is more important than anything else in any sports...you need to have trust in your abilities to win, you need to be sure - but Abraham looked stunned in the fights against Froch and Ward. The last fight against the guy called pokemon doesn't count, that guy wasn't a high bar for double A.

This only makes sense if Kessler gets a tune-up.

As it is, he was going to be ten months out of the ring against Stieglitz in April while the reigning champ just freshened up with a January defense to shake his own rust from last spring.

Stieglitz may be willing to get back in as quickly as a couple months after his last appearance, but bigger names like Abraham and Ward may feel entitled to much longer rest periods.

Kessler should not be expected to sit on his thumbs until mid-2012 (which would make a year inactive) in order for this to work around the time Ward and Abraham would likely be returning to action.

I say go ahead as planned with Kessler-Stieglitz, and let Kessler then go on to challenge Ward for unification while Stieglitz and Abraham have a crossroads bout to maintain their rankings (no title on the line; 10 rounds unless an eliminator).

Seems like this 'tune-up' is going to be Brian Magee, the Dane Killer. :thumbsup

The Scene mentions it as a possibility (with Sauerland "smiling" about it), and to me is an even more valid way to get to Kessler-Ward II because the Interim WBA title would be on the line... save the WBA-is-a-POS-org talk, it lines the winner up with Ward.

As for Abraham getting a shot at Stieglitz, I see it as a pretty good scrap.

If we have either Froch-Bute or Ward-Bute in the meantime, it makes the division that much more interesting and.. alive.

WBA is a POS org in such a manner that the winner Kessler-Magee lines the winner up with the winner of Balzsay-Sartison

Haha ya, didn't think about that one. Hopefully not.

Besides, I thought Sauerland was keen on offering an enormous payday to Ward for a Kessler fight in Denmark..?!

I feel that if Sauerland sets Kessler up with Magee, it's a fairly big downgrade from Stieglitz. So much so that I think Sauerland is shafting the dane (if true).

I find the story to be highly speculative TBH.

Sauerland, props to them; this is influence: they already signed Kessler-Stieglitz and got the minor WBO belt to AA. They now have multiple options for Kessler, unlike Interbox. Excuse the cilche but the boxing organizations are just little puppets in the hands of big promoters
