Just back on topic of the actual fight, this is probably going to get lost amongst the furore.

Dirrell fought MUCH better tonight. The holding, showboating, general messing around that plagued the Froch fight was reduced by a good 75% I reckon which was pleasing and made for a much better fight. He definitely matured from that experience. Infact the most frustrating thing to me in the action was AA's constant bitching about low blows rather than anything Dirrell did.

AA was typical Abraham but he left himself too much work to do at the end it seemed, and his frustration might have boiled over.

 

I'd say he slips, stops, clings (wrong word) a lot, he spoils yes... they are all tactics...

You think fighters don't spoil? They do and they use every trick in the book they can, it would be exceedingly naive to think they don't... purposely slipping to break up a rhythm would be one of them..

 

Unlike the Froch fight he had the confidence and time to unload his combos from the first round...always thought this would be the case in this fight but I expected it to change around round 4....AAs slow starts was perfect for Dirrell here

But agreed, it was a pleasure watching him fight tonight...he is a great talent

i agree, i thought he boxed beautifully, and if he had not have been so scared of froch and boxed like he did tonight against froch i have no doubt he would be a world champ now.

 

Yes, that was a factor. Abraham gave him all the time in the world to do his thing, as expected. But even when Abraham turned up the heat in the middle I thought Dirrell responded much more like a professional prizefighter compared to the Froch fight. He fired back more often or countered which not many people do when Abraham opens up. I'm not saying he didn't do any spoiling, but like I said I thought a good 75% was cut out.

Abraham has his dirty moves too, hitting the back of the head and whining about low blows that are borderline many times to try and influence the ref so he was far from innocent and never has been averse to the odd questionable tactic in his career overall so I think we're unfair on Dirrell at times.

 

The way AA gave away so many early rounds without doing anything was quite shocking.

 

yeah, almost bizzare, its one thing being a slow starter but not even throwing a puch is just plain weird
