Abraham vs Dirrell To Land in New York's MSG on 1/23?

I hope Direll comes to fight this time. If he doesn't fight and is not interesting in winning the ref should DQ him and Showtime should withhold his purse.

 

Bady style matchup for Abe. Dirrell counters well, throws the jab to the head and stomach, and controls distance very well. Abe better not fight with his hands down like he did againsts JT because Dirrell will be all over that.

I think Dirrell can earn a UD if he can avoid Abe's power.

 

They better have a kick ass undercard with local fighters otherwise they won't even sell 1/4 of the venue.

I realize the fight is in the USA to be fair to Dirrell (he just fought on the road) and Showtime wants fight to take place in the USA. But the reality is that fight should be in Germany where it would sell +15,000 tickets.

Sometimes promoters make no sense. Like when they decided to make the Taylor-Froch fight in Foxwood. They barely sold 3000 tickets.

It remains to be seen if Dirrell's jab will find anything but gloves and forearms. Abraham has these perfect body mechanics for his air tight guard, short upper body and long forearms so that he can cover his face and belly without having to move his hands. To land good punches on Abraham, you have to be willing to engage and use openings when he throws punches. If Dirrell was nervous about Froch's punches, which are slower and more telegraphed than Abraham's, he might be very uncomfortable in the ring with Abraham. On the other hand, Abraham seems to not mind being hit, he has this calm confidence that is rare. Dirrell has great skills and speed, but Abraham is an effective fighter, whose limitations are difficult to exploit.

 

Dirrell controls distance well? When have we seen this?

 

Abe is no defensive wizard; he stands directly in front of his opponent. Dirrell can find the openings because he is a better technical boxer than JT and he's a much better counter puncher than JT is. Abe has to force Andre to fight IMO to win this bout and not hang his hopes on a last minute KO. Abe approached the JT fight terribly IMO.

 

Pretty much the entire time he was fighting Froch. Contrary to popular opinion, Andre was standing directly in front of Carl for most of the fight. All of this running nonsense is just that. Fact is, Froch wasn't able to do anything to Andre when Andre was directly in front of him and that's because Andre controls distance well.

 

How else would a fighter like Abraham approach a fight against someone like Taylor who starts fast and then tires? He outboxed him, was ahead on the scorecards comfortably, and then knocked him out...

 

Hmm...Abe was in his first fight at supermiddle against a taller, far more experienced fighter and turned the fight in his favor in the middle rounds, lead on the cards and scored a KO when the opportunity was there. How is that terrible? If we compare how Dirrell and Abe approached their last fights, do your really feel Dirrell did the better job against Froch?

Abe doesn't need to be a defensive wizzard technically, he is hard to hit clean because of his guard even if he stands in fron of an opponent. How would Dirrell use his technical abilities to create openings? You think Abe's guard will suddenly disappear because he is in awe of Dirrell's ability?

It'll be interesting to see how many fans Dirrell can put in the seats. Abraham did 14.000. How many AA fans (American and traveling overseas) can we expect?
