I know its kinda late to talk about this since the Jones vs Calzague fight then happened but i got to get it off my chest ,the fight simply sucks , I dont know im a boxing fan but Abraham simply make a dull fight or hes like that every time because i havent seen him apart from the Miranda 2 fight.:-(
Don't watch him then, just don't forget to tune in when he fights Pavlik. You obviously don't understand what he's doing in the ring and I can't blame you.
I wont miss Pavlik vs Abraham ,,,i enjoyed his 2 fight with Miranda thats why i tuned for this one in the first place.
Marquez turned into that other Mexican "warrior",Genero Hernandes.Steal the fans money in their last "fight".
I like AA and like watching him fight although i can understand why others might find his fights dull. If you like brawls or fast counter punches then AA isn't for you.
I think Abraham fights in a very controlled and measured way, I enjoy watching him, I think this particular fight was a joke though, Marquez clearly just came for the pay cheque. Only thing I would say about Abraham is if he increased his work rate a little that would be good. And if he does fight Pavlik then Pavlik is in for a beating imo.
I kinda enjoyed it,always enjoy watching the King, great fighter. But Marquez didn't really put up a fight
Marquez came to fight. He earned his way there, by winning a fight he was not supposed to. He came to win...that he realised he could not do. Abraham came out early to rock him and get a bit of respect. Marquez and did well, but AA took him out of his game plan, and against a young hard two handed puncher, Marquez had no B plan. At 37 the reflex is not there vs a A level 28 year old. Marquez, did right to quit. He hit AA as hard as he could and didn't do anything, He found he could not out box him, as he expected to. He was rocked hard in the 6th. He had a cut that would have opened and caused problems in the 7th. Agains't AA you need to be able to see. And he knew in the 7th or latest the 8th, he would be KO'ed. Marquez, earned the two rounds he took. He had a good jab...that would have been more effectful against some one not using the shell. I wish he'd given the fans what they wanted, on his back KO.... But he has an ex-wife to support and kids, and a new girlfriend. He had the brains to say what brains he had left, he wanted to keep. He did mark up AA's face and many a fighter never did that. But No one expected anything but an AA ko...
Actually, this was one of the better fights I have seen AA in. Seriously. He came out and just beat the **** out of his opponent. Not just cover and explode for one shot. Marquez took some punishment in his fight against a younger Lorenzo but kept coming after him. AA beat him into submission. I've seen maybe 5 of AA's fights but this one had me the most impressed.
I think some people are being very hard on Marquez. At the end of the day Marquez is a light middle who didn't even have a hard punch at that weight. AA is a big middleweight who has a huge punch and an iron jaw. It was obvious Marquez didn't stand a chance. I give Marquez major respect just for getting into the ring with AA.
I think it's important to remember why we got this fight instead of Abraham/Pavlik. It's not Arthur's fault, nor is it Kelly's fault, and it sure as hell ain't Raul's fault. The fault lies with boxing politics, and the manipulations of the power brokers. Top Rank and HBO claim that AA is not well known enough in the US market to give Pavlik/Abraham the status it deserves. They wanted AA to fight a couple times in the US, so AA did the rematch with Miranda. At that time Giovanni Lorenzo was the IBF mandatory. Lornezo is a cocky little ****er who believed his own hype. He fought a voluntary title elminator with Marquez and got beat. That made Marquez the mandatory. Top Rank could have paid Marquez some step-aside money, and made Pavlik/Abraham, but Arum used to promote Raul, and they are still friends. Arum was not willing to do anything to stand in Raul's way. So, we keep ending up with **** like Pavlik/Lockett and Abraham/Marquez. In my opinion these are the fights that need to happen at 160 pretty damn soon. Pavlik/Rubio: Rubio earned his shot. He's the WBC mandatory, and KP needs a tune-up after the one-sided shellacking he took from BHop. Abraham/Sturm: That's a big fight in Germany and a good clash of styles. Wright/Mundine: That would tell us if Winky has anything left, and whether or not Munidine can make any noise at 160.
