Not enough? That workout Bumpy is doing is over the top and pointless, far too much. People seem to forget their abs are muscles, the same as any other. Why they feel the need to do such extreme, over the top workouts just because they box, I don't know. I'd like to know what "thin tummy exercises" are.
I would disagree that its pointless i have a well defined 8 pack , a thin tummy is basically , lie flace up on the floor with your knees bent and your feet flat , place both hands under your bet line with your fingers heading down and thumbs on your mid ab section , then contract your lower ab muscles thinning your tummy between the belly button and groin , your upper abs should be hollowed , hold the position for 5 seconds then relax and reset the muscles before repeating .... Alss abs are muscles but they work differently to others i thought it was common knowledge that you have to perform more reps than you would on your shoulders for example
This just proves you have a low bodyfat, that's it. This doesn't even make sense. Thinning your tummy between the belly button and groin? What are you on about? Source of this information? I've heard this bs from boxers before but nobody has ever given actual proof of how the abs are some special, magical muscle that needs special treatment and need to be extremely overworked.
Seriously i dont have a ' source ' for this infomation just personal experience and common knowledge , who the **** goes to the gym and performs 3 sets of 12 reps on 6 excersizes and considers that enough work to build up there abs ? It jus doesnt work like that you need to perform high reps because your abs are used constantly in every day activies such as sweeping/raking at work playing with the dog etc , so they wont respond to a poxy plank excersize or 3 sets of 12 ! You need high reps for a well built six pack . I mean you are right the trick is to have low body fat for the abs to be visible but what then ? If you want them to look good you should perform higher reps like 50/100 for each excersize. Take a look at Roy Jones Jr ask him if he uses the plank , or performs low reps on excersizes for his abs the answer is inevitably no. If you want a six pack it takes hard work , dedication and time.
I do 30 mins on the TRX every other day. My core is strong now. As said to show the muscles you need to lose fat. Body fat of 10% or less i read
Yeah you would do 3 sets of 12 for your abs but you would add resistance by holding weights or a medicine ball. You really don't have to work hard for good abs, it's up to low bodyweight and shape of muscles. The plank is a great exercise for core stability and is probably more beneficial in a sporting sense than any eccentric/concentric ab exercises. I know a guy who doesn't exercise at all and he has a good 8 pack so saying that you have to work hard for good abs is basically bs. Actually that guy is a pothead and claims he gets a good ab workout when he coughs. The best thing for abs is to lower your bodyfat and the rest is up to genetics.
hey i was going to start a thread about this but seems like this is the place: so do abs need to be rested as much as other muscles? cos if you do a really instense purely strength training workout for say 45 minutes then you will only do it around twice a week, especially when you are doing boxing specific exercises all the other days. however, how many times per week should one have a relatively intense ab workout? my only ab-specific workout is: 6 x 20 crunches, with 25 second rests between sets
I always felt like it was 70-80 pct genetic, but like any other muscle group performance can be maximized by mixing in high rep/no weight with low rep/weighted exercises. Abdominal muscles should have both strength and endurance like any other group.
What you are looking for as regards Abs, is a balancing act Firm with flexability. As not to stop the psosses working as it should.
seriously there are split opinions on how is best to work the abs some favour intense high rep workouts some favour the 3 sets low reps type of routine , i would reccomend 5 days a week
So how do I have a defined 6 pack and I don't do any direct ab work at all? 6 exercises is still over the top. But I can show you many, many programs where no direct ab work is involved yet you'll have a six pack if you eat correctly.
