The ultimate bum with a shot Vaughn Bean. Course it was hard to tell who was the bigger bum that night. Bean or Moorer the champ bum.
The you got the entire fatass, too lazy to train or put down the pizza and stop whining set. The out of shape always and big tit boys : Double D Witherspoon. Cut me and I bleed gravy Tubbs, I fight better with a chicken wing in my mouth Page, I've never looked like a fighter Bey. BUMS ALL a disgrace to a fine sport and really the beginning of the end of the division after the Great Holmes
What? Bean went 12 with Holy, split decision with Moorer, and 11 rounds with Vitali. If he’s a bum, we’re all crack addicted cripples with aids.
Brian Yates comes to mind. I don't think he'd be a top fighter in the nhl. Certainly was considered another one of those C or D grade fighters Earnie shavers was always knocking out. But Yates forgot to read the memo and blasted Earnie out of there.
Harsh but true. Greg Page was almost as over-hyped as Cooney. Not only was he undisiciplined and lazy, his style absolutely stank. Seemed to be trying hard to be like Ali.
Until you enter a ring, and literally put everything on the line, I would refrain from using the term, just as almost all who have done so refrain from it. And Tubbs was in there trying to do what he did against Tyson. You might as well call Patterson a bum, too, for his effort against Liston.
This is true. I'd make a distinction between a legitimate world champion (such as Ali) "training like a bum" and a fighter who's a habitual bum. There's no excuse for Ali in those instances, it is disgraceful still, but clearly he was no bum. Simply by way of status, a legitimate world champion can't be classed a "bum" anyway.
It 's always a bit hard to swallow the term when it comes from those who have never been in there.Any of those freely insulting these pros would **** their pants if they were facing them.
That doesn't seem to be the case at all. Many of the great (and not so great) fighters are quoted as refering to other fighters as bums. They often accuse rivals of being bums or fighting bums. Many of the great trainers use the term. It's part of the boxing lexicon. And for good reason. Bums are allowed to fight too. Boxing is democratic that way. No. Patterson trained for the Liston fights. Tubbs's own trainer walked out on him saying Tubbs didn't want to do any work. What do you call a man who doesn't want to do any work ?
Heavyweight division produces the most bums by far. Since they don't have to make weight at all, it is open to every fat guy and tough guy bum in town. The result was later changed to a no contest when both Cobb and Barch tested positive for cocaine. A 1993 Sports Illustrated article alleged that Barch had taken a dive. The article contained an interview with Barch himself, who said the two fighters did cocaine together before and after the fight and that he took a dive after being bribed by the promoter, Rick "Elvis" Parker. Cobb sued Sports Illustrated for defamation and a jury awarded him over $10 million. However, the verdict was overturned by a federal appeals court, which said that the story wasn't published with "actual malice."
Plenty is said of taxi cab drivers and tomato cans in the ballyhoo leading up to a fight but never talked to a boxer who thought so little of another guy who entered the paid ranks. Tubbs went out and gave it an effort. He was active and throwing. It wasn't a Seldon'esque effort at all. And even that, I wouldn't call Seldon a bum. James Toney?
