1.Turn of the 20th century boxers stand no chance against more modern boxers.

    2. Ali is the most overrated boxer of all time.

    3. SRR is the p4p GOAT in boxing.

    4. The 90's is the best HW era ever.

It still doesn't change the fact his power is overrated.

Boxing is Not a Sport, but a BUSINESS,

where the Owners & Managers RUN the Factory, the Machine is set at varying levels of Production, depending on Who's Buying and the Product is Quality Checked based on Sales, Requests and Demand.

the Outcome Favours the Owners, the Buyers and the Machine, the Product either Benefits or Not, depending on the Order!

Overrated by which people? By any standard McClellan belongs to the highest echelon of MW punchers.

Agree with all the rest but not this. Robinson was a significant evolution over the fighters who came before him but he would be far from dominant against many of the modern greats.

Modern training techniques/sports medicine have not applied to boxing the same way they have to other sports because they work best when applied to kids and the infrastructure isn't there. Check out the baseball/football facilities at the top prep schools, they're better than what pro teams have even 25 years ago. Meanwhile youth boxing is, if anything, less sophisticated than ever.

I strongly agree with you that boxing has largely declined. No one throws the kind of flowing combinations, each punch setting up the next and playing on previously set expectations, that the best of the best used to display.

Modern training techniques are partially to blame. They help you improve what's easy to measure, so guys can rip a single shot harder than ever (thus rattling skulls and making boxing more dangerous) but they can't measure the artistry so they cut it out. As bad as this attitude has gotten, boxing is still the closest thing to a refuge from it. Baseball is like watching a damn statistics lecture at this point, and I like statistics lectures but not while I'm trying to unwind.

I think you can get to at least 5 different names (including some wonky ones) depending on what your definition of "best" is for HWs. I agree with you on "accomplishments" but there are a lot of other ways. You could even have HW P4P ratings since the range of HW champ weights is larger than the range from HW to minimumweight. That would be an interesting exercise!

    100% agreed.

Oof, #6 is probably right though. You ever catch yourself talking about boxing to a normal person? You sound like a psycho.

Boxing is the most cynical, but they're all businesses. Not just the pros, amateurs all the way down to kids.

It's sad, no competition for its own sake. You gotta make a fortune or win a championship or else it's a loss.

WRONG, he was neither a Lone Wolf or totally unique, Boxing by the 20s was becoming More Refined and Athletic, there were Many, Many a Beautiful Boxer & Stylists,

SRR and Co would have absolutely NO PROBLEM Today, also SRR and Damn Near Every Other Past fighter would be Fighting in a Weight Division or Two LOWER, than where they were in bygone times... let that sink in.

SRR was coming in as a WW for MW fights because he didn't want to have to shrink back down. He was giving up big weight differences even with same day weigh ins.

It's crazy to think the divisions he might have be in today's game.

    1. Gene Tunney was the first "modern" looking heavyweight champion.

    2. Skill-wise, boxing hasn't significantly changed in the last 80 years.

    3. Tony Canzoneri was an amazing boxer.

    4. Joe Louis' short, powerful combinations is a thing of beauty.

    5. Chuck Davey's win over Rocky Graziano was an out-and-out fix.

    6. The opinions of old time boxers/trainers/reporters should be taken with a grain of salt.

It is quite possible he would not be as dominant today, but when assesing greatness, I judge them mostly on what they achieved in their own era.
So that's different to how well a boxer would do in another era

'74 Ali is not beating a prime, properly prepared Foreman, neither is Ali of '71.
