Nobody's denying Margarito showed excellent toughness and grit, and he proved he was the better man that night. We're simply saying Cotto has the potential to beat Margarito if he fights the right fight. And sorry, fighting on the move, throwing hardly any body shots, and showing zero ability to clinch isn't fighting the right fight. Body shots are Cotto's specialty, how can you guys act like he didn't make a critical mistake there?

I feel if Cotto isn't scared from the last fight he can make the adjustments come in with a better gameplan and win.

He headhunted the whole night, come on! Cotto is know for his GREAT body attack and it was nowhere to be found.

I agree. Whats really amazing is knowing what a chin Margo has Cotto decided to abandon the body all together, and try to crack it for some incredible reason that still has me baffeled

Cotto should have fought his fight and adjusted accordingly(as he usually does) instead of changing everything(style, approach, etc.) right off the bat. Hopefully Cotto will realize this before they fight again

Or if he's not straight up ruined from it. Those kinds of beatings are hard to come back from. But I won't use that as an excuse. I've stated that he can beat him with the right gameplan and I will stick to it. I'm picking Cotto in the rematch.

Check what Lance said to me, when I talked about what Cotto should of done / adjusted to.

This is what Lance said to me. Basically, Im wrong for thinking Cotto could adjust.

Yes they. Sometimes fighters just aren't the same after fights like that.

Margarito was beating him up inside. Cotto did try and test Margarito early and Margarito's left hook to the body forced Cotto back.

Do you honestly think that Cotto wouldn't have attempted to win this the way he won all other professional fights, had that window of opportunity presented itself?

Cotto could not hurt Margarito. And Cotto operates on hurt. He was made to be useless against Tony. And the official scorecards don't lie. Close or up for Margarito. One way or another Cotto was in deep ****. He just could not get Margarito's respect, which is the first time in his professional career that has happened. He ran into a tougher hombre.

Wow thats pretty crazy:nut Lance is usually thoughtful with his posts, so it's a bit odd

I agree with your assessment totally but most importantly Cotto didnt do his thing from the get go. If he had and adjusted as the fight went on he wouldve been victorious

On a side note Cotto landed many hard, and fast combinations to Margos face, and Margo ate em up, now if Cotto had thrown half of those punches to the body, Margo wouldnt have been as strong late in the fight, its just not possible despite Margos unbreakable will

No worries there will be a rematch and I think Cotto can correct his few grave mistakes

In all honesty Cotto did adjust. Had he not adjusted and fought his usual fight he would have gotten KO earlier.

Cotto couldn't go to the body without getting seriously beat up to the head, and he obviously knew that. He fought like he never fought before because he couldn't do what he did to others to Margarito.

I agree with your post. Specially the bold part. Cotto should of thrown to the body! As EM said during the Gatti-Ward fight. He needs to go the body, THATS IT TO THE BODY!

I think he should've, I don't think he did. I think he thought the best way to beat Margarito was to box, because he felt he could box on the move all night and have an easy time. He didn't seem to want to risk it on the inside, despite being the more skilled fighter. I suppose he was either weary of Margarito's power or just didn't want to risk it. It came back to bite him in the ass.

He couldn't get his respect for the exact reasons I stated, he continuously went to the head on a granite chinned opponent, instead of working him to the body from the start. He may have thrown a few early on, but he never once in the fight devoted any real time to it, especially down the stretch when he should've realized the head shots weren't working. Add to that he showed complete inexperience in that type of situation by refusing to clinch. Basically what he proved was that he was still had a lot to learn, as skilled as he is.

Margarito did show he was the tougher hombre, he is if you want to get into that, but Cotto is the more skilled, and permitted he fights his fight, devotes more time to the body, and learns from this, he should be able to beat Margarito. That's my take anyway. We won't know for sure until the rematch.

Don't think that Cotto hasn't studied Margarito. He knows how Tony keeps his elbows in so hitting the body is not so easy. And he knows that to do so would mean having his head right in the path of those uppercuts.

As far as Cotto was concerned, eating the first few flush punches convinced him it wasn't worth the time. Had he stood his ground with Margarito and fought inside, he would have eaten many more uppercuts. And he probably would have been stopped sooner.

    Here's what one of Cotto's conermen,Joey Gomez, said about Cotto's ability to execute the gameplan;

"That punch produced a lot of blood, we tried to use medicine to stop it. It was affecting his breathing. He was forced to breathe through his mouth and he was being hit with a lot of bodyshots. We gave him specific instructions on what to do in the fight, he a lot of times he wasn't able to do it."

"Therefore it had to breathe a lot by the mouth besides that caught many blows in the body. In every moment Miguel indicated that was well, we gave him some specific instructions and he tried them, but many times did not he be able"

Gomez says that Cotto was told to stay off the ropes and to keep the fight in the center of the ring, but he couldn't stop Margarito from pressing forward.

"Margarito was all over him at all times. Miguel tried to get him off. The pace of the fight was tough and the body blows hurt him,"

It's not so easy to execute the right gameplan under these circumstances.
