he was a good fighter, but, corrales was way bigger than him. against diaz it seemed like he didnt take the fight seriously.

Had a good career. The Barrios fight stands out for me. He also gets too much grief about his heart. Corrales was a monster at 135 and a horrible matchup for Popo and essentially ended his career, even though he fought a few more times afterwards. Juan Diaz was just picking at a carcass when they fought.
all unfunny jokes aside. he was a good puncher but was put into the "I'm the puncher" category way too soon. had nice long right hand and a good jab. which made him hard to really deduct what he was going to do. but he was always stuck in that he was, a big enough puncher to rely on his power but physically and stylistically better prepared as a boxer...or at least a bit more stand up instead of his chest high right and and left hand resting on his left knee.. and so instead of it all gelling together to make a boxer-puncher it became acelino the puncher and popo the mover. and when neither worked he crumbled and didnt know what to do. also his stamina in the later rounds was always bad. against casamayor he was pushing punches and pretending to box. so against guys who where just physically weaker he would roll over against bigger slower opponents he could pretend to box and do some jabbing and moving. but it was just coasting. didn't know how to clinch and his inside work is non existent. leading a to tired struggling fighter int he later rounds. also got massive amounts of attention and popularity. had a huge following but i don't think he was that top notch. was the man at 130 by proxy with corrales moving up and casamayor losing a SUPER close decision.
