You're right about the Barrios fight.....but I believe someone mentioned earlier that gettting hurt in this fight is what ruined Freitas mentally.

You know, I still feel the same way that Freitas quit without as much as a fighting back vs Corrales and Diaz........but you know what, I can still respect Freitas as a fighter, as I surely dont know what was haunting him during the time he made his decision to quit.
If I saw Freitas out on the street, I'd surely go up to him and shake his hand.
    Would'nt call him a quitter either.:D;)

To be honest I think Freitis was just outclassed against Corrales...Diego was just the level of fighter and style that he was going to be exposed, if you will, against.

By the time he fought Diaz his heart wasnt in it.

Exciting fighter who had a short but impressive run at the top...His win over Casa is a bit forgotten, I do rate it. I really did think at the time he was a level below Joel...would have liked to seen a rematch though.

:D wouldn't do that to him either, man.

Even with his defeats, the guy is still capable of hurting someone.. :D

    Good post. :thumbsup

Do you think if he'd retired in 2004 after fighting Chico there might now be more of a focus on the positive aspects of his career up to that point?

The three extra wins at lightweight (even winning the WBO title from Raheem) don't really enhance his legacy that much - and by the time he ran into a priming little cyclone in the Baby Bull, you're absolutely correct in that he looked like he just didn't want to deal with anything like that anymore, so that could be seen as the far more damning blow to him than the first loss.

Good fighter, very strong puncher, ran into some problems when he stepped up to the very top shelf opposition and maybe showed he didn't have the heart for that level of action. A guy who can beat everyone except the elites.

yeah pretty much.. I don't blame him for quitting against Chico. On that last kd Chico hit him so hard he was damn near sideways flying thru the air, and the only that could happen after that is Popo getting very seriously hurt. No shame in quitting that fight.

    V. Diaz, he was just done and didn't want it anymore.

He got a gift vs. Casamayor, I think he was the one that expose him, that point that "Firm but Fair" took away when Casa hit him after d break was not called for it, Freitas initated the exchange, and d knockdown was a horrible call too.

Not a gift, it was a fair decision. I thought Freitas won rounds 1,2,3,4,5 and 8, scored a KD and Casa had a point deducted for his known dirty tatics.
Casa finished stronger, but he gave away too many early rounds. I had 114-112 for Freitas, like the 3 judges. The best I could see for Casa is a draw.

The KO against casa was a slip...the point is: he should have gone for a rematch to clear doubts.. the way casa did against corrales.

I wonder how big the win over Barrios was in Brazil?

Far from a gift...but a rematch was warranted IMO.

the barrios fight because wasn't he down on 2 of the cards going into the 11th? barrios hit him with a stiff as **** jab then dropped him with a 1-2 on the chin. At the bell though Freitas lands a crazy right hand that for all intents and purposes ended the fight. barrios got up but he was done going into the 12th...that was some heart but yeah he went out terribly against diaz

The thing that bother me the most about him isnt that he quit but watching him celebrate around the ring as if he won the fight after quitting , that was pretty pathetic.
