Nah mate only T.C.W. is turing this into a boxing is better then MMA thread. Mate both are great sports and are going to be around for years to come. FULLSTOP..
You sure about that mate ? CFC 12 just had 2,500 at Horden Pavilion(friday 13th march), since ufc came to oz i have emceed 8 shows which 5 have been mma or half/half shows, all numbers are up and with a sold out sign at the door early. MMA isnt like the wwe when it was at its peak in the late 90's with fans going to aussie wrestling to take a peak and then realizing that it wasnt a wwf show. sure the fan who wheres a silverstar/tapout/ed hardy johnny come lately t-shirt whos suddenly become and expert overnight is there and thats great but i believe that its firmly here to stay. i love my boxing but we have to move with the times, regardless of the holier than though act of the 'sweet science'something has to be done. dont dismiss mma i think embrace it and do like the muay thai/kickboxing audience/promotors are doing and adding a few mma fights on there card.
Im not dismissing MMA at all. What gave you that impression? As i have done so before i give praise to UFC for the way the way they run their business. And the sport itself MMA is a very tough/popular sport. Im saying that i believe there are two different fan bases. Boxings fanbase. MMA fan base. Just like there is a tennis fanbase and a cricket fanbase. I just dont think people are leaving boxing to follow MMA. As i said maybe that happens every so often but overall i think they are two different fan bases with two different people following them.
what needs to done, follow the mma models, fighters get nothing and get screwed and under total control, like the ufc runs it business, The fans and the fighters are getting totally ****ed in the ase by the UFC, the standard in Australia of mma is disgrace full. it is just so bad it is in embarrassing. if they keep trying to run there business like WWE the UFC there in trouble, this is fighting MMA not a circus like WWE and fighters need to get paided and there not, it is a joke the amount of money these guys are making, Mundine, green, vic are making more money than the top UFC fighter. In australia, 2500 turn up to MMA event and it taking over, yeah right, australia first needs a fighter with world class ability to follow.
:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl So George Sotiropoulos , Hecto Lombard,Kyle Noke who are all aussies arent world class fighters ?? Um ok then. Looks like we have to go through this again me thinks. 1. UFC 100: Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir, July 11 1.6 million 2. Boxing: Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto, Nov. 14 1.25 million 3. Boxing: Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Marquez, Sept. 19 1.05 million 4. UFC 94: Georges St. Pierre vs. B.J. Penn, Jan. 31 920,000 5. UFC 101: B.J. Penn vs. Kenny Florian/Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin, Aug. 8 850,000 6. Boxing: Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton, May 2 825,000 7. UFC 107: B.J. Penn vs. Diego Sanchez, Dec. 12 650,000 7. UFC 97: Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leites/Chuck Liddell vs. Mauricio Rua, April 18 650,000 9. UFC 98: Lyoto Machida vs. Rashad Evans/Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra, May 23 635,000 10. Wrestling: WWE WrestleMania 25, April 5 582,000 Also in the article Meltzer mentions that the UFC did over eight million buys total which is amazing. At $45, which is the lowest price, the UFC made over $350,000,000. Of course the UFC is a private company so we can never know how much they actually made. If I was to make a decent guess though I would go with PPV revenue being somewhere around $450,000,000 total due to bar purchases and HD buys. Once again though I have no idea how much a bar pays so the figure is probably no where near what the UFC actually made from sales. Also it is worth noting that PPV buys are not the sole source of the UFCs revenue stream. The UFC also makes money on merchandising including clothing, training gear, video games and even its own This content is protected in California. Then there is also the sponsorship money the UFC takes in from all of those ads placed in and around the cage. I figure if you take all this into account it isnt extreme to think that the UFC pulled in over $750,000,000 last year. UFC are doing ppv's every fortnight now,we can do the boxing is still getting the numbers thing. Its not. 2 fights left that everyone wants to see and then thats pretty much it for boxing from a worldwide fans perspective.. Mayweather vs pacman 1 Mayweather vs pacman 2 The Rematch Heavyweights 10 years ago was all the rage, now we have the littler guys getting the big bucks. Less alphabet titles, more fights with more meaning and no fudged records as in boxing, no ducking of opponents and if your the champ in mma refuse a fight or are injured and cant defend the belt within 6 months your stripped, we should be making these things mandatory in boxing , it can only help.
They say the truth hurts, so I guess that's why boxing is feeling the pain. Those facts & figures make perfect sense to me. The only time the squillion dollar purses are mentioned in boxing, which is only about once or twice a year, is when HBO or whoever decide to put one on. We have this obsession that whoever has a belt is a real competitive champion. It's complete & utter bull****. Entertainment first = competition,,, & that decides what floats & what sinks. One thing I would tend to agree with TCW in that, from what i've been told, the MA fighters are grossly underpaid, & that's the ones that are (paid). What would George, Hector etc get for a main event here Perry, any idea?
Just an aside... Channel ONE HD are now advertising UFC being screened about 3 nights a week. One of those slots would have been where the Channel ONE boxing used to be!
Show me all the figures you want. I prefer the clinical nature of boxing, nothing will change that. Boxing has been around for a lot longer - so it has splintered. Same will happen to MMA in time. It all corrupts in the end. I don't mind MMA, just wouldn't pay to see it. Tis like rugy league v union. Both survive.
How confident are you in those numbers? Bob Arum gave an interview stating that PPV numbers for boxing cannot be false/made up because they are not privately owned companies. UFC on the other hand can spew out what ever numbers they like and no one can check/verify them. I think i read an interview where Dana White confirms this (not confirming he has lied about numbers but the public/private ownership thing) Here is the Arum interview where he states this: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE_tsPatoBU[/ame] Start watching at 6 mins for the PPV numbers and 4:30 for the UCF are a bunch of skinhead white guys comment HAHAHA Arum is crazy
wow, I can't believe he was making such offensive statements..He can have a big mouth on him that Arum..
that youtube interview has been shown before, if u were arum wouldnt you do the same thing ? When your under the pump , besr form of defence is attack baby! One HD gets all the UFC shows much cheaper than a live superfighter on thursday nights, including bigger numbers, shame as the concept was great but channel 10 treats one hd like a ******* red headed step child. If you want the perfect medium of what way to launch another channel on the same network then look no further than channel seven 2, they dumped all there new programs over there and the regular channel 7 they always say/show' Now heres whats happening on our other channel' channel ten hardly ever make references or if they do its very quick about whats going on at one hd and its there own channel and some of the sports on there are awesome.
