ok lets take the POPO from 130 where he had great power vs the Edwin Velero of to day.

if you remeber correctly POPO went 29-0-0 (29KO) and was know as a striaght in your face action power puncher. the buzz was around him very much as it is around Valero these days. Valero is 23-0-0 (23ko)
a very impressive record other then there knockout power i started asking myself what else to they share in comon. Frietas was one of my favorite boxers up until he quit against juan diaz. i remeber how he changed his style up a bit when he fought Casa. after viewing some clips of valero on you tube i see alot of similarites on the way they fight other then a few sparing videos he doesn't look impressive . for some reason i see him turning out to be just another frietas. but less impressive. and i see him getting beaten by a fighter who can bang.

so in the end who do you think would win this fight?

I think that towards the end of his career, Frietas was a better boxer than he was in his prime ... I think if this happens prime for prime Valero knocks him out.

If its the same Frietas that fought Casa ... he will win !!

Because Frietas was just as much of a brawler as Valero and I honestly think that Valero hits harder than any super feather or lightweight ... he has one punch power.

I seen him drop Jose Armando Santa Cruz in sparring ... in sparring ... with one punch ... they both had big gloves on and head gear and Valero knocked him down and actually hurt him...

I think Santa Cruz is a light welterweight campaigning at lightweight ... he has power and a good chin.

Don't come back about the David Diaz fight because Santa Cruz ran out of gas.

Valero is so overrated...who has he beaten??? Vincente Mosquera...not a world beater but a former WBA title holder nevertheless. At 130 PoPo was the goods. He beat Barrios and Casamayor, at 135 boxed Corrales' ears off until he got dropped 3 times. At 130, Freitas was more multi-faceted than Valero. Freitas became more a boxer at 135. Valero HAD decent boxing skills but has since abandon them, and couple that with having no jab, barely any technique, and a prime Freitas equals a mid round kayo for Freitas. All people remember is Freitas saying enough at in his last two losses but before that he survived several wars and beat better fighters than Valero himself....in this fight Maxboxing's son gets his ass handed too him in a see-saw battle with a guy similar to himself but more athletically gifted, faster and a better boxer

Easy win for Popó, especially the 130 version, with heart and determination.
I still remember Popó being dropped several times to come back and KO his opponents, especially in the Barrios fight. Popó getting a decision against Casamayor was also amazing, when Popó was a huge underdog and everybody said he was just a right hand and nothing else.

velero is overrated..sure he has power but he is not tested yet, freitas is more polished unlike valero and would definitely land more punches. So prime for prime, i'll go with freitas.

why because it did it with a buzzsaw like Diaz when he wasnt hungry anymore....lets be real, Valero is wide-open and at 130, i doubt he lasts 12 rounds taking Freitas' best right overhands and looping left hooks. Freitas has the edge in speed, timing, footwork, jab, and big-fight experience. Boxing fans have the shortest memories of all sports fans.
