Jofre was more a supreme all rounder than action specialist, but he was very aggressive and maintained his effectiveness and skill set way past his physical prime and above his optimum weight class.

Morales did well imo to have an 8 year stay at the top considering the all-out wars he put himself through against inferior fighters.

I'm one of Monzon's biggest fans, but I wouldn't count him as an "action fighter"...a consistently long time, high level effective fighter, but not always a crowd pleaser by any means.

Hamed had all of one war where he absorbed any degree of punishment in his career and a singular, pretty one sided drubbing by Barrera to end it out.

I'm talking about fighters who got hit, and yet still never had the usual fallout such as deteriorating punch resistance.

Chacon actually never became totally shot

He was still performing admirably at age 33 after the Mancini loss.

You're on target about Saad. He was shot by age 28.

If I had to pick one fighter that would best fit what you are looking for in this thread, I'd say Marvin Johnson was able to keep his form much longer than most would expect. He got shot all at once in the second Leslie Stewart fight, in 1987.

But, the fact he was still able to win a championship in '86 after all the wars was quite remarkable.

Two other guys who lasted longer than I expected were Marco Antonio Barrera and Eric Morales.

They could box at times, but they were in ALOT of wars.

I've been watching a lot of Marvin Johnson lately. I actually edit the boxrec pages for most fights after I watch them, I figure the fights are worth documenting and maybe people will find great fights and fighters more accessible if they have a little more content to chew on besides watching the fight....My contribution back to a sport I love anyway. Just watched and did the page on Marvin Johnson vs Parlov yesterday I think.

Boy, did Johnson absolutely pummel Parlov. Parlov didn't win a quarter of any round, none the less a whole one. I remember how calm Johnson was while being interviewed before the fight even though he was on the road in alien waters. Would love to know a little bit more about the man...

There's a 45-year-old Congolese-born super middleweight, Lolenga Mock, fighting out of Demark, who may fit the type of boxer, TS is looking for.

He's not particularly skillful and has no punch to speak of - so in just about every fight, he has to work extremely hard to outlast his opponent. He has been at it since 1991, and the only time he has ever been stopped was in 2003, against the much bigger David Haye.

He's currently on an 11 fight winning streak, and scored his biggest win earlier this month against Russia's Dmitrii Chudinov. He's not really world class, but you can't help admiring his heart and the work he puts in (always in fantastic shape, with a hard, chiseled body that belies his age). At 45 he could of course suddenly age overnight, so there's no telling how long he can keep going.

Yes, impressive longevity. A pro over 20 yrs.

It must be noted that he faced Tuur and Gonzalez way after their respective primes.

Intentional Butt has a great, lengthy write-up on Lolenga and his pretty remarkable life story over in General and it's a great read. Mock is among the most interesting boxers currently active in my opinion.

You also left out the fact that he badly rocked, and I believe dropped, David Haye before being caught with a nuclear uppercut from the vastly larger David Haye. I think he beat the count but the contest was waived off. Then again, been several years since I've seen that one.....

I know, Gonzalez was ancient and far outside of his optimal weight class, fighting I imagine on guile and experience more than anything.

I still find it remarkable that there's a generational "connecter" like Salido around, is what I'm trying to say.

A nod for Floyd Patterson, if I understand your criteria - a pro for 20 years, and still giving a good account of himself at the very end.
