Not sure the small men of today would have been able to compete.

Carnera's head movement reminds me of Efe Ajagba...none at all

Love it. Reminds me of Friday night at the dive bars near the mine.

Quality, lumbering giants smashing lumps out of one another.
People hate hearing it, but Lewis and Vitali was not much different to this.

If you can't see the difference between theses two and Lewis or Vitali maybe it's time to follow a different sport.

And yet, when they fought each other, looked like two big lumbering giants with no head movement basically wrestling as much as they were throwing punches. Falling into clinches and wrestle holds without even throwing a punch. Clumsy footwork, throwing looping haymakers that often missed by feet rather than inches, despite no moving target.

Post the video of the full fight where that's not happening.
You can't because it doesn't exist.

timestamped for the last 20 seconds of round 1, just for an example :

Primo was involved in a lot of entertaining brawls.

That's why people have always liked him.

He wasn't boring, you have to give him that.

    You´re doing good lately.
Like to hear some more quality reports about these oldschool SHW pros.

    Thanks.

That one lived up to its billing as "Battle of the Bums". What more is there to say ?

It's funny how Ian Darke and Glenn McCrory working for SKY remarked several times that Lewis was "slow and ponderous" and had a "leaky defence" as Lewis stumbled around like a drunken oaf, not an astute observation by any means because it's clear as day for all tos see ..... "he's leaving himself really open, he just looks a shadow of himself" ...... and yet the revisionists on this forum almost pretend Lewis and Vitali display the pinnacle of this mythical "modern super-heavyweight skill".
No, they just displayed their power and strength and hearts. It was an incredibly sloppy fight, technically.

Ooooo dat one right hand Lewis does land though.

Yeah. Lewis was near retirement and had prepared for a much lesser fighter. By his own account, losing his edge in training. Vitali didn't get the proper prep time. Neither one of them was used to being equalled in size by a guy in his class. They took away the advantages the other man was used to and what was left was the raws you identify.

    Great fight to watch though.

how does anybody look at video of Carnera, Baer, Galento, etc. and then make a post like Baer vs. Ibeabuchi...? The only questions about that one is if Baer tried to fight, how many seconds would he last, or would he run out of the ring when he saw Ibeabuchi. Carnera, Baer, and Galento would be good first fights for a decent amateur turning pro. No danger and an easy win.

    Exactly.
Their boxing (and defensive) styles were a bit different but both based around having a slight or significant advantage in height and/or especially reach, and strength.
Matched far more evenly in those departments than previously, they both elected (resorted to) slug it out in a test of raw strength, power and heart, instead of trying to invent some new application of their "skills".

Emanuel Steward seemed to intuitively understand this after the first round, and advised Lewis to just impose himself, rely on experience of being the champion, just put it on Vitali and keep putting it on until he wilted first.
Whether such advice would have proven correct without those cuts Vitali acquired, I don't know, but it's immaterial because the cuts were the result of Lewis's sheer bloody-mindedness surely.
