Nice. Carnera is so huge that he looks more than 265lbs. That picture of him alongside Max Baer, the size of his legs too!

Primo looks good, he was not without talent...just a tough era for Big guys...He would do fine today... a little too aggressive possibly

I like Carnera, one of the gamest fighters ever but Meen was, to be honest, no good, what is that low left hand about?

What does the statement tough era for big guys mean ? Are you saying Vitali or Lennox would likely not dominated in the Schmeling - Braddock era or that Primo was as good as they were ? Just curious ?

I got another vicious Carnera knockout: his first fight against Victorio Campolo.
I will try to upload it later.

Carnera was a huge mountain of walking muscles, but regarding the skills, he had none. It's incredible, he didn't even throw punches, no jab, hands always held low, and way slower than Valuev... Carnera makes Tye Fields looks like a fine technician. He wouldn't even be a sparring partner, today.

looks not much diff to a lot of our big loafs today, only Primo appears a little busier.

so he rules and reigns with the exception of the agile LLs, Bowes and the big klits.

not a great deal different except for what I've said and most of our loafs would lose to him and he was considered crude and second rate in his time, so nice footage.

Here is Carnera vs Victorio Campolo I - a brutal Carnera KO.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1JiSbTrGBY

Interesting thing is that in this fight Carnera was 42 pounds heavier than Campolo while in the rematch - boxrec has a mistake I believe: Carnera weighs 238 pounds and Campolo 280 pounds. Carnera never weighed in under 260 but Campolo did go up in weight in the fights before the Carnera rematch.

Carnera is underrated. His resume is solid but many fights were fixed how many is impossilbe to ascertain. As far as skill level he looks decent offensively-he really steps into his punches and gets leverage-he just doesn't tuck his chin at all and becomes sloppy in combination throwing. Any heavyweight with good timing can counter and tee off on him. A man his size was unheard of in this era and he began late in his career so he wasn't taught properly and maybe at his size lacked the coordination to really possess athletic dexterity but he was not the "bum" many make him out to be.

My thoughts. He doesn't look any worse than most HW's today. I was wondering why he wasn't jabbing, but it occurred to me that he didn't need to against this guy.

Low hands and little defense here, but I still think he gets underrated a bit.

I think guys like Ruslan Chagaev and Iggy Ibragimove would beat him handily based upon this limited footage.

There were always big guys but the well conditioned smaller men dominated, there were only 2 Heavyweight Champs over 6"5 and 245lb Willard and Carnera and they were both beaten badly by smaller men.

Lennox,Vitali and Vlad are the best of the big men but I would not favor them at all in the Joe Louis era. LL,VK,& WK are from the Olympic era and have huge amateur pedigree and I think had the doors been open to Russians earlier we may have had many more of the Russians, etc. possibly upsetting the apple cart in the 1950-1980's etc. but some of the guys that beat Lewis,Vlad & Vital were not really giants Byrd for 1, Brewster was 6" Rahman & McCall were muscled up but could not compare them to Louis as punchers

Louis fought guys 6"6 and over 240 and so did Dempsey so if we are talking about size alone that never before made the grade alone. In fact guys like Terrell,Middleton,Carnera,Willard who were the best of the big men were beaten by smaller men so these era's were tough era's for Big men....I do however say that LL,VK,WK,Bowe were the best of the Big men and would have a better chance but a guy like Bowe would get hit too much to get hit by Joe Louis and I would not bet on Lewis, Vlad or Vitali to beat Joe but IMO they would have a better chance of success then the Big men that tried before them but no sure thing

by the way there are many Big men that have fought in the last 20 years that were not as good as Primo or Jess or Buddy Baer for that matter
