Adílson "Maguila" Rodrigues Thread

There is two sides of it, since he was overhyped to the extent that on weekends the build up to the fights was all they have in the second´s most watched channel in Brazil, when everyone realized that he was not this great boxer that would be champion of the world, people felt cheated on......
And as I said, brazilians are kinda of snobs once they see that a fellow countryman is not a "winner", and they retort to mockery to the guy, so after the Holyfield nasty knockout, the inkling that people had that he was being overhyped, became too clear and he became this "showpiece" of amusement for the people, they did pranks on him on TV knowing that he would take the bait, and on boxing talks quickly someone started to talk about how bad he was... etc.. you know... (talk about how bad he was as a boxer is fine , okay)

Also, Maguila came from the poorest part of the country, so he grew up in real poverty (as a kid he lived in a bucket of an abandoned truck and all he ate was stale bread and some bananas), and he didn't have any formal education, once you put this man in the mike, he had no filter. And there is also something there I feel like people being snobs, once they see a guy that was so modest and unschooled, they act like jerks to feel better.

Oh, and to illustrate this even more, he was black (he is black! he is still alive) , and yes his nickname is Maguila because of the Gorilla from the cartoon....... the gorilla that lived in the Zoo and was strong but a nice guy and kinda naive. ****ed up if you ask me!

 

He hated the nickname in the beginning, but he went along with it after a while.
