Ok, let's be clear here. HBO has a budget for sports, from that budget they can decide to buy a fight or series of fights. They do not lose money on their budget. Klitschko fights have drawn similar or better ratings than most of the WCB boxing events. A notable exception being the BAD fight between Oscar and Stevie Forbes, which happened to cost HBO three times as much as any Klitschko fight, and which they had to go out of budget to put on.

For the amount it costs to put on say four Klitschko fights they couldn't put on the Sopranos, which stopped broadcasting in 2007, because James Gandolfini's salary alone was $25 million, or almost half of HBO's entire sport's budget.

Furthermore, since you insist on talking about his "American debut," if HBO really wanted to introduce him to the market they could easily show a tape delay on a previously scheduled broadcast, or just show it anyway. Seriously if they wanted to build up somebody they'd show his fights. You're really talking out your ass on this one, I mean you honestly think because Showtime showed a tape delay that HBO cannot? That is laughable.

If you resort to name calling to several people after talking about the necessity of being civilized you are at best a hypocrite , you dont like them fine.. but to slag off insults while trying to play the moral high ground is just sad...

His words and actions tell me that he is in no hurry to face the Klitschko's, because he doesn't have what it takes to beat them.

The Punch that landed on ruiz in the first round would have sent Waldo to sleep.

With the amount of punches he landed on Ruiz, he would have cut up Vilita worse than Lennox did, he'd quit on his stool again, wanting to go home for a cuddle.

HBO and boxing are at a crossroads. The first draft of the network’s overall budget for 2010 was presented in July. It called for a US$15,000,000 reduction for HBO Sports; a cut in excess of twenty percent. Then, during the first week of September, Michael Lombardo (president of HBO’s programming group and West Coast operations) further signaled senior management’s displeasure with the status quo by instructing HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg to cut several million dollars from the budget for the last quarter of 2009.

The key players in the drama that’s unfolding are HBO CEO Bill Nelson, co-president Richard Plepler, and Lombardo. Sources say that these three men have been frustrated by the absence of a coherent overall plan for boxing at HBO. Plepler (who has an extensive background in public relations) is said to have taken particular notice of the publicity that Showtime received when it announced its 168-pound championship tournament. He wonders why HBO Sports, with a far larger budget, has stirred so little media interest in its own boxing programming.

At an early stage of the budget discussions, the powers-that-be asked Greenburg for a comprehensive plan that outlines his vision for the future of boxing at HBO. In making their request, they told him that simply saying HBO intends to buy better, more competitive fights in the future doesn’t constitute a plan. That’s what HBO should have been doing all along. They want a plan.

During the week of September 21st, Greenburg and his staff rehearsed the presentation of their case for restoration of the cuts from next year’s budget. That presentation was made to Nelson, Plepler, and Lombardo on Thursday, September 24th. Sources say that senior vice president for sports operations and pay-per-view Mark Taffet, HBO Sports senior vice president Kery Davis, HBO Sports executive producer Rick Bernstein, and HBO Sports senior vice president and chief financial officer Barbara Thomas were also present.

Ross has lost a great deal of credibility with senior management because of his dealings with Golden Boy,” a source says. “It goes back to when he convinced them to invest heavily in the license fee and marketing for De La Hoya-Forbes on the premise that it would be a big event. It wasn’t. Now Ross goes into the meetings and tries to sell boxing. And they tell him, ‘Ross, look at the ratings.’ For $15,000,000, Mike Lombardo can develop two new series and maybe deliver the next Sex and the City or The Sopranos

Chambers got dominated by Wlad, but prior to that was doing a pretty good number on the division. He had realed off wins versus Peter, a former champ, and Dimitrenko, an undefeated 6'7" 255lb contender, en route to a title shot. Ruiz, on the other hand, went into the Haye fight 3-3 in his last 6.

Develop a series, the costs of launching a series are far less than sustaining one that is as popular as the Sopranos. The key problem in HBO sports is not the Klitschkos though. Hauser has said over and over again that the problem is GBP and its contract combined with Greenburg's insane pay outs. He is only bidding against himself, not Showtime, and is spending far more per event than he needs to. Instead of having ridiculous guarantees he could just develop a concise strategy and more evenly distribute the money over multiple fights.

:rofl:nut:patsch the dude couldnt keep a 38 year old washed up Ruiz down even after rabbitt punching from hell the whole fight.. he couldnt put a ancient Valuev down who was schooled by a 46 year old holyfield down even once.. He also couldnt keep a washed up ancient Barrett down, yet Clouser and Solis smoked him in two rounds... Maybe you need to come to grips with Hayes punching power... :deal

I'm done schooling you nerds. the last gem I will leave you with is that HBO feels the way boxing fans are on the net these days that it affects the results of a tape delay.

And they are right, it does affect their ratings. Especially if people read it was another boring ass Klit fight.

I understand that a series like the Sopranos increases subscriptions. The point is that he said they could develop the next Sopranos, not that they actually would. The cost of the Sopranos by its last season were tremendous.
