Compare their performances with Kiladze, Kownacki took more punches in the first round vs Kiladaze than Joyce probably did in the entire fight with Kildaze. Joyce has some head movement if he sees the shot coming, problem he had with Zhang is he's sneaky and a counter puncher so Joyce couldn't see them coming.
Sadly for him the first Helenius fight ended him and probably should've retired after the 2nd loss. Don't really think he was ever a world contender worthy fighter tbh, who did he beat? Gerard Washedupington who didn't wanna be in there? Szpilka the cruiserweight who gets knocked out by just about everyone? But I do respect him for coming back and putting on a hell of a fight last night.
He has a wife and two children. Surely he has made enough $ to feed and clothe them for a few years as he adjusts to life outside the ring.
His weaknesses were always going to be exposed but he was 20-0 and on a decent five fight run: KO'd Szpilka as the underdog (went on to beat Wach and drop Rozanski), KO'd Kiladze (went on to drop Ajagba and Faust x2), beat Martin (went on to KO Washington and drop Ortiz x2), KO'd Washington (went on to KO Helenius) and beat Arreola (went on to go 12 rounds with and drop Ruiz) in a punch stat breaking fight. He was finished after the first Helenius fight.
You'd hope so but we all know how terrible boxers are with money, boxers who have made far more than him, have ended up broke.
To be fair, he's worse than he used to be. He really is shattered glass at this point. You can tell he's punch drunk even by the way he walks outside of the ring. It reminded me of Povetkin coming in for Whyte 2
Before kownacki fought helenius I thought we were going to get him vs Andy ruiz. At the time a good fight on paper but probably not now
He looked like Meldrick Taylor before Chavez/Taylor II. As with Taylor, Kownacki actually did better than he might have all things considered. He's damaged and needs to retire today for good.
Agreed, all the shots he's taken have clearly taken a toll, he'd have likely beaten Cusumano before Helenius ruined him. He went from C level to become an outright journeymen in just a few fights.
He has decent hands and volume which got him some good wins but is let down by condition and defence. If your undersized and don't move the head it's going to get punched. Only himself to blame for the career derailment
