Just employ Clarke/Macklin/Lee and have guests on rotation. How Nelson has remained on the payroll of Sky for so long is beyond me.
Nelson is paid to big up the underdog. He's the biggest script reader of them all. "I think Bellew is technically better than Usyk" and all that crap. Always goes for the underdog to keep it interesting. Scored last nights fight for Fowler as well in case the robbery came in. It's not easy to find a man who will literally abandon his brain on live TV for a few quid so Johnny is a valuable member of the team.
Adam Smith's constant shouting voice over every second of a fight is why I will never buy a SKY PPV. The shilling at 747 levels ruins the whole show.
My favourite bit was when he bizarrely claimed that the crowd were ‘getting right behind Anthony Fowler’ when they were quite clearly singing Fitzgerald’s name.
Why is he even commentating? They've got Andy Clarke next to him just give him the mic. As the above poster says it was comical when he was trying to say the crowd were behind him when they were clearly backing Fitzgerald.
The script said that the commentary team would be 100% behind Fowler and they never deviate from the script Hearn hands them before the fight, regardless of how it's going.
Smith is awful, absolutely ruins fights for me by always looking for a narrative to drive. And always saying "just looks to his corner there, as if to say X", ****ing winds me right up. Clarke is decent, Macklin not bad. Most of them are a little bias but to different levels, same as Buncey is toward British fighters. Andy Lee is usually very good. Would like to see him full time but Macklin and Barker became less impartial with time, would worry that happens to him too. Nelson is the worst pundit. Right up there with Fearon. He was peddling the idea on Twitter that Tevin Farmer is a better defensive fighter than Canelo. Awful.
Tbh for the first 3 rounds id agree fowler couldnt miss him with the jab, Fitzgerald adapted thereafter though fairplay
I'd keep: Andy Clarke, Andy Lee, Dave Coldwell, Anna Woolhouse (eye candy) and I was going to say Paulie Malinaggi but I don't think he even does Sky anymore. Can't remember the last time he was on and I'd get Dillian Whyte on more often too. He's done it once or twice. I'd bin: Froch, Nelson, Bellew, Barker, Oliver and Macklin. Macklin is a more recent addition to the bin list. Adam Smith can stay, but not on commentary.
I've nothing against Froch or Bellew personally, both good fighters. I have the patience of a God and it's becoming even too much for me now. When I saw Nelson, Froch and Bellew lined up my first reaction was 'oh for ****s sake' I wouldn't mind it but the Fowler fight, neither Froch or Adam Smith acknowledged any jabs Fitzgerald landed, or the many jabs Fowler threw but didn't land. All I heard was along the lines of 'Fitzgerald isn't out of this yet though' through rounds 1-3', I swear Smith had pre-recorded that and had it ready on loop. The main event was worse, I get it was bit of a mismatch and that Bellew will back his fellow scousers but it was criminal commentating. Might of well just of said 'This fight should not be happening'. Was Liam this Liam that, none of Eggingston work was acknowledged. It was just a pity parade about how the fight should be stopped after a round. Again, why bother having the fight if that's the view. I read these forums during breaks between fights now as I don't want to listen to corporate guff. I want to hear honest, un-biased opinions (where possible) from not just ex fighters but those fighters who are actual fans of the sport. Is that really too much to ask for? Nothing against Froch as a person but he has said many a time he isn't really into the sport as a fan hasn't he?
Bellew is particularly irritating because he presents himself as a loud mouth straight talker when in fact he's as biased as any of them. Wether it's AJ, Chisora or one of his scouse mates, Tony will spend the whole build up/fight, talking about how many levels his guy is above the opponent, failing to acknowledge the opponent punching his guy in the face.
