This content is protected start of interview. Says Warren put on good shows before Eddie Hearn emerged. Leisure Centre shows were mostly Matchroon & Frank Maloney.
Once he mentioned all the other sports, he is basically stating that the boxing on Sky is pony these days.
Of course Frank put on good shows. He also put on loads of terrible shows and his handling of the careers of Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton were, as a boxing fan who wanted to see the best fight the best, deeply frustrating. He also dissolves companies to avoid paying fighters which is, of course, indefensible. A big part of the reason why boxing has done so well in this country recently is that we have seen a clear change in the way careers are handled. A loss isn't a major issue for fighters. Unbeaten records are nice but not essential. And your average paying punter takes a keener interest in more evenly matched, high class boxing than watching some guy wipe out someone who's not even near his level.
Agree does not reflect well on any promoter - the fighters know it, the promoters know it and increasingly the fans see it.
Quite ironic since the last high class (e.g world title fight) that was quite evenly matched in the UK was a Warren fight i.e Warrington v Frampton.
Is this in response to Frank calling Smith disingenuous for saying that before Hearn, their Sky shows used to be crap?
Nice to see Wazza get some praise. He’s done some great cards/fights over the past few years. Smith doesn’t seem to be happy with Hearn.
Eh Day has the nerve to stick on low level evenly matched non title fights such as Pudding Whyte v Pudding Chisora on PPV
