I'm glad that they aren't showing that farce on HBO. HBO has smartened up about GG's weak ass comp.

There's reasonable sense in this - Adama ain't a random guy off the street - in boxing terms he's fairly proven, but he ain't a fighter of the calibre that GGG needs to be facing right now. TBH It was unlikely to be a top opponent in Monaco anyway - however it appears that feelers were put out to both Geale (confirmed) and Murray (apparently) who didn't want it, and alongside Sturm these are the top 160lbers available.

The way I understand it though, no fight is an 'easy' fight for a top level pro boxer - the guy in front of you can always hurt you or surprise you, even KO you - this of course, is the reason why at the top level, fighters take this risk as infrequently as possible and only for the largest purses.

Golovkin, for all the hype around him, is not in the category of boxers who can pick and choose (beyond a certain level) his opponents - the aim of his team (- frankly GGG himself would appear to be eager to take the biggest fights he can right now) - is to build him into the kinda name who can do just that - Adama won't do much to further that goal, but given the choice between not fighting at all and a legitimate top 20 guy, well...I know what I'd rather see an ambitious fighter do.

Thing is, though...for a second tier opponent, I still have a feeling that they could have done a bit better than Adama. Mora's coming off a win (Proksa) that's likely as impressive as anything Adama's accomplished at the weight, is a former world titlist, and has actually called out GGG. Why not give him an opportunity?

Failing that, how about someone like Konecny? He's pretty fan friendly, capable in all areas, and is certainly just as durable as Adama. Why not give him a chance?

Even if every single Top 10 contender ducked for cover at the mention of Golovkin, the fact remains is that there are better fights to be made among the second tier at present, imho.

20? I'm not sure there are only twenty middleweights better than Adama, frankly.

He is #12 per both the WBA and Boxrec; not top 40 in the WBC (despite holding a bauble of theirs - called the "Continental Americas" title - as recently as last year); not in the IBF top 15; not in the WBO top 15.

His 'points' accumulated on Boxrec can be explained by his scalping of aged Brewer and Karmazin, both worth much less than in past years but still retaining some of their points value due to high-level victories in the distant past...but the WBA ranking makes no sense. It seems very convenient that Adama is absent from the WBA ratings through most of 2013, until just a couple of months ago - scant weeks before he was announced to be the next challenger for Golovkin who desperately needed someone ranked for Monte Carlo...

As for twenty better middleweights, IMO:

    Golovkin
    Martinez
Geale (obviously, shut his ass completely out and knocked him down)
    Quillin
Barker even though he just retired
    Murray
    Sturm
    Macklin
    N'Dam N'Jikam
    Korobov
    Saunders
    Nielsen
    Lee
    Jacobs
    Rubio
    Truax
    Proksa
    Bursak
    Stevens
    Sanchez
    Chudinov
    Mora
    Guerrero
    Love
    Kirkland
    Soliman
    Konecny
    Lemieux
    Fletcher
    Ryder
    Blackwell

...that is thirty, over whom Adama if victorious would be said to have sprung a rather surprising upset.

He certainly has never beaten anyone as good as is on that list. A couple of bigger names than some of them at present, yes (consider that some are merely prospects) - but Karmazin and Brewer were done, with a fork stuck in 'em...in reality no longer worth a tenth of their name value.

AB shooting dice, with hookers, would be nice as a warm up:lol:

I think HBO is just not willing to pay the cash for the rights to air this fight and why should they? They already have the public behind GGG:think and this is not that big of a fight :smoke

It's a mismatch, but Golovkin wants to fight as often as possible, why take time out of the ring fighting nobody? Golovkin wanted to fight Martinez, but Martinez took the Cotto fight, Golovkin wants to fight Quillin, Sturm, Murray, Geale, he wants the best out there. If you can't get the best into a ring, then fight tuneup fights, Joe Louis did it................

you get more ******ed by the day. that is not even close to the reason why he has a bigger following. The main reason is because ***** ass fanboy casual fans like yourself see power and equate that with skill. you f*ckboys fall in love with fighters that have one punch ko power against bum ass tomato cans and it blinds you to the fighters short comings. so your dumbass and idiots like you keep going on like GGG is the second coming of tyson so you can be thouroghly dissapointed when he gets outclassed by a fighter with true skill like ward. and f*ck "fans" and their opinions if they act like your dumb fickle ass.
