- What a fight! - [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zktxa8N8TXM[/ame] I thought Cunningham won every round except the rounds where he got knocked on his ass. WAR GORAL:bananamaniac
Yeah, I do. A late FOTY candidate that year, I'm a big Cunningham fan and it's a shame there wasn't a rematch(not Adamek's fault, c'mon HBO shell out the dough!)
When people mention great fights of the recent past, they often over look this one. Very under rated fight.
I age watching my favorite fighters in fights like this. Definetly was worthy of a candidate for FOTY.
I think the only reason it gets overlooked is because it was a cruiserweight fight. Great, great fight.
if you thought cunningham won every round he didn't get dropped in, you must be mad. it was a brilliant fight that kept going back and forth, with the greater damage done by adamek giving him the edge.
That was hyperbole. The point is, nearly everytime Cunningham started to get going, Adamek dropped him, and it was a split decision. The knock downs gave Adamek the fight.
One of the best fights in the last years. Very rare to see so much action at 200 pounds. The fight even without knockdowns was close. I think that it was a split decision, because Cunningham was defending and I noticed that in championship fights often one judge scores all the close rounds to the champion. Since this fight I started being a fan of Cunningham. I hope that there will be a USS/Diablo III for WBC and IBF and The Ring belts
Great fight, I had Adamek by only 2 points. Steve definitely earned a rematch, as well as the respect of the nation in that fight. It's really too bad we didn't see a second fight.
i've seen it like 20 times , true story , but only beacuse they re replaying it on Polsat sport every week and i am studying with the telly turned on on that channel. Great fight but if we talk about underrated bouts, I would say: adamek wars with Pul briggs two of the best of the decade yet not many even seen them. P.s i thought it was very close without the kds, no way it should be sd with them imo, also in the official punchstats if anybody cares adamek actually landed more powerpunches. With cunninghum landing like 20 puncher more overall.
Ya know -- at the inception of the cruiserweight division I thought it was a fantastic idea. I also thought is was a good idea to increase the weight limit to 200 pounds. The era of the 190-200 pound heavyweights was clearly over. The division just never really caught on. We can always dream! Can you imagine guys like Jerry Quarry and Oscar Bonavena as modern cruiserweights:yep
Yep. To be honest I think the cruiserweight division has some considerable talent, it's just usually mostly European so it's no big deal stateside(especially with Don King attempting to ruin Cunningham's career, and BJ Flores flushing his career down the toilet). And I think it's still a good idea, cause as you mention...I can't imagine the thought of any of these guys wanting a piece of the Klitschko brothers at Heavyweight (and yes, I do think Haye would lose to them too).
