I don't think you understand Adamek's stock at HW. Before he even fought Golota, Wlad's camp came calling with an offer for a fight, because they understand this will make mulla, and want to get Adamek when's he's not ready for prime time at HW. Adamek wisely refused. His path towards a belt is already laid out with rumours he will fight either Haye in mid year, after Estrada or either Klit bro after having an additional fight after Estrada. For good or bad, Adamek won't have to jump through too many hurdles to get his shot because he is a popular fighter, with a deep fan base.
That's a pretty sad statement about the HW divison that 6'6 wlad was calling 6'1 cw adamek for a title fight. I would say that's shameful but the division is so bad I guess u can't blame wlad
Yeah, but this is a business and why not kill two birds with one stone - get Adamek early while he's still green at HW, while making the money from a big fight. The sad reality of the HW is that none of the current contenders save for Haye bring in big money, so its not surprising Wlad was eyeing Adamek early. Guys like Haye, Chambers and Adamek will make this sad division more competative imo. In terms of skill, all of them are head and shoulders above guys like Arreola, Peter and Thompson.
I hear you about the business side of things and if the adamek fight made the most business sense like i said i guess it's ok given this shitty division. I hope it would be just business for wlad because I don't know why he thinks he'd have to catch Adamek "while he's green." Wlad will be able to handle Adamek at any point in Adamek's development. He's too small and not special enough to compensate. Chambers will have the same problem but his handspeed and D is probably better than Adamek's. Haye's got a shot to be a legit threat w/ his speed and power and his decent size.
If Haye's got a shot, Adamek's got a shot. They are of comparable size, with Haye a bit faster. Adamek can absorb more Klitschko punishment though. If he can get past Wlad's jab, he can do some major damage. Adamek is nothing special in terms of in born skill, but the guy has got a VERY sneaky, fast counter punch that can surprise anyone. Best of all, he fights best when he's in trouble and hurt.
Arreola is a horrible fight for Adamek to take. Tomasz should fight guys like Estrada and Meehan and get ready for David Haye, a fighter who is not that much bigger than him, and a fighter who he has a chance against (unlike Klitschko). "to naive to have any chance with polish fighter" :-( I am one of the few original Adamek fans on here, but statements like this need to stop. Arreola has a very good chance at beating Adamek (and vice versa), let's not pretend Tomasz is going to walk through him.
yeah haye and adamek are "comparable" in size but were comparing adamek to wlad and not adamek to haye. haye's got adamek by an inch or two in height and reach which isn't much but when you consider haye's already giving up 3 or so inches to wlad, it adds up. just don't see adamek ever being able to consistently "get past" wlad's jab nor do i see adamek packing such a HW punch that all he'll need is a couple shots. Who knows, perhaps i'm underestimating adamek, but we'll see as he steps up a bit more and fills out as much as he can. BTW, i'm not sold on haye having all that great a shot but he's got raw speed and power that could go a long way.
They are of comparable weight not size. Haye is a 215 pound athletic heavyweight whereas Adamek is a cruiserweight who did'nt have to worry about making weight. Conventional wisdom on these threads seem to be if Haye can do it Adamek can. I think this is crazy Haye is superior in every respect except chin but he is far more elusive when he chooses to be. I am fascinated by Adamek at heavyweight and he is definately a welcome addition to the division but I don't see why people are so optimistic about his chances. If he does fight and beat Arreola in June as suggested then there can be no argument, whatever his physical shortcomings he will be an unavoidable challenge for all the champions.
I believe when Haye first pulled out Adamek was offered the Klitschko fight and on very short notice so he passed. If Adamek does choose to fight one of the Klitchkos he shouldnt bother with Arreola and go straight to that (unless HBO wants the Arreola-Adamek to set up the fight), I say why take the heavy hands if you do want a title shot. Adamek is a bigger name for him than the other ranked hw's.
it remains to be soon who is better, adamek or haye. haye is sharper, more dynamic, flashier. but this does not necessarily equate with "superior". adamek is more awkard, more gawky. but is the more well schooled, much more durable, and has a far better workrate. adamek has been in bitter, punishing 12-rounders and won. if haye goes 12 rounds, he reduces his punch output drastically (see abdoul and valuev fights). both are elite fighters, would put on a great fight vs each other. adamek's career will be a huge success if he wins a heavyweight eliminator, and wins a heavyweight belt, even if it is vs a smaller heavyweight like haye. let's not forget, he is a former cruiser and even LIGHT HEAVY champ. not everything has to be measured against a klitschko, especially given that they won't be around much longer, as they are getting old. both adamek and haye are/were true cruiserweight champs, 2 champs who absolutely refuse to let their careers plateau or stagnate, which is why they've moved up to heavyweight for bigger challenges and better paydays. good luck to both of them.
fighting americans is a good way to get american TV money, no? golota was big and slow, whereas the next foe estrada is tricky/fast and light hitting. different fights, different tests. estrada will give adamek rounds, and we'll see whay adamek is like carrying 215-20 over the long haul. if, as suggested, arreola is next after estrada, then adamek will be facing some power and brute strength, for sure. perhaps estrada is enough to bring in showbox (as was banks) and arreola is enough to rope in HBO...then the coverage may be enough to raise adamek's profile to attract a haye fight (if all goes well)...
think the answer is, fight yanks to get american TV money. maybe he can defend vs some of these guys - especially boytsov - if he gets to, and wins, a haye fight. but fighting the boytsovs and the chagaevs and the ustinovs probably means fighting in germany. right now i think adamek wants to get he TV paydays and the fame, in america. that said i wiould love to see adamek v boytsov. what a battle that would be.
