Povetkin's right eye was already swollen by the third round, Chambers was hurting Povetkin and he knew that. Chambers fought nothing like Toney, Chambers fought like crap, and something just happened after the fourth round that caused his activity level to drop. In a rematch I think things would be different, who do you think would win a rematch?
Cunningham is notoriously feather fisted & Banks did catch Adamek with a shot that gave him a little wobble. I agree he has a good chin but it isn't impenitrable to begin with and at HW i'm sure he could be hurt. That said, i don't imagine his chin will be much of an issue, he could get hurt by a big perfectly placed shot but so could any HW not named Vitali.
Cunnigham's light punching rep is overstated. his quick and accurate punches are heavier than most people think. Banks is certainly a heavy puncher, esp at CW. People are also confused when it comes to Adamek being knocked down. They often cite 2 knock downs (Briggs, Dawson) both of which were actually slips.
In the Dawson fight, Chad put his leg behind Adamek's leg. Adamek just stepped back and their leg crossed, so he fell.
chambers is similar to many of te top americna boxers, ranging from toney - low workrate, crisp right hand counter - to winky wright - shuffling forward behind tight guard. chambers was looking for the right hand counter. he landed some great shots. povetkin adjusted. he adjusted his combos to cancel out the right hand. he canceled the right hand, by finishing his combos with left hands. chambers cocks his right hand, and povetkin intercepted it, with the lefts. chambers' best weapon was taken off him, and he got tired because he was overweight and was unable to match povetkin's 100 punches per round. surely there is no mystery. a flu-ridden povetkin took his heart. povetkin is leaner and meaner with atlas, in the low 220s rather than near-230. so while chambers COULD be in better shape (the chambers of the dimitrenko figth), povetkin likely a) won't be sick and b) will be fitter and faster himself. povetkin wins a rematch. how about giving him credit for winning the first fight. ppl seem to have a problem doing this...
it's ludicrous to say holyfield had a better showing. did holyfield - or chagaev for that matter - hurt valuev at the end? no. holy had no reflexes, so he couldn't throw enough good punches to go with his nice movement. haye, being young, could throw in the punches when he needed to. this is surely a clear difference, and it is the difference between winning (haye) and losing (holyfield). all ringside writers had haye beating valuev, and most had valuev beating holyfield. haye is better than he looks at heavyweight. he has had too many months off, too much inactivity. he should see the true haye in the next couple of fights.
Is that Roger Bloodworth Adamek is working with? Great trainer if it is. To me Adamek doesn't look that big. Makes me wonder if somebody's own physical size affects their perceptions of others.
You forget that Chambers work-rate is MUCH higher then before. How about you explain this, after round nine Eddie's dad and Buddy McGirt were screaming at Chambers to throw more punches and be desperate to actually want to win the fight. What did Chambers do the next round? Chambers threw a total of 11 punches. Throughout the fight against Povetkin, Chambers work-rate was 9-21 punches a round. Against Samuel Peter Chambers was throwing 31-45 punches a round. Also despite Povetkin being skilled, he had numerous holes in his game. And I give credit where credit is due, Povetkin won fair and square in the first fight. In a rematch though, I think Chambers will beat Povetkin because next time he will actually want to win.
