Eastsideboxing.com is saying Adamek is not going to go through with his fight with Pulev. Adamek says it doesn't make financial sense to him and that he has a much better offer to fight in Poland next. Article doesn't mention who that opponent could be. Also, no word on if the IBF makes Pulev the mandatory or puts someone else in with Pulev.
Very disappointed in Adamek if true. He was one of the few fighters in the division who you could count on to just get on with it, whoever he was fighting. I can't begrudge a man trying to make the best money he can before he retires, but we've had enough of this nonsense in the division of late, and it's just rather disheartening to see it continue.
Of course he passes on Pulev. He wants to fight someone he can actually win three rounds against and somehow still get the decision.
shame, but he knows as well as his fans do that he is DONE when it comes to facing the top guys in a competetive fight
How can he be ducking someone if he's not even champion? Adamek has given us many good fights and never seemed to get out of the way of a challenge. Can he at least build his way to one last pay day? Hell, just beating Chambers, Walker and Cunningham in a year's time is more than most other contenders have done.
I don't really blame him either, if those are his thoughts on the matter, and Adamek's earned his dues more than most. But boxing's a tough sport, and if he doesn't feel like he can hack it at the top anymore then he needs to make way for someone who does. There are too many fighters cluttering up the top ten and twenty who don't really belong there but stick around due to politics and careful avoidance of fighters who can knock them out of their nest. This behaviour's been going unchecked for too long now.
**** that. He entered the IBF eliminator tournament if he didnt want to get destroyed against Vova he never should have entered. Pulev was expecting one more fight to gain experience against a veteran like Adamek now who knows. Also when the Povetkin fight fell apart had Tomasz announced this 2 months ago perhaps Vova/Pulev would be in talks right now, unlikely as Sauerland probably wants Kubrat to have mandatory status for negotiation purposes but whatever. Tomasz is holding up the division and ****ing people over.
He entered the eliminator feeling like he beat a top young heavyweight in Chambers with many disputing it but now he leaves with nearly everyone feeling he lost to a highly depleted Steve Cunnigham who wasn't even proven at heavyweight and most people thought was close to being killed at cruiserweight. You have to admit his circumstances changed significantly. I think he's just come to terms with not having what it takes anymore. And, he's stepping aside. Let Pulev and Jennings-the young guns do it.
