Adamek/Quarry: Who win and why?

Yes, he's been more consistent against modern Cruiserweights but give me a break man...Jerry Quarry walked through some verd hard flush shots from Shavers(one of the hardest punchers in history) and took everything a young, prime Frazier had before losing on cuts...Does Adamek or Povetkin really belong in the same sentence as Jerry F'n Quarry? I say hell no...

 

In his prime, who did Jerry Quarry lose to that was less talented than Adamek?...Frazier, Ali, Machen, Chuvalo, Ellis...The least talented guy on this list of prime losses is probably Machen and he outpoints Adamek...

 

Adamek is not fighting the same people that Quarry fought. Quarry fought during the most competitive, toughest era in heavyweight history. Even you would have to admit though that Quarry lost a few he could have and should have won. Ellis and Chuvalo, for example, were both nowhere near the fighters Quarry was but still beat him. Quarry was a bit undersized for a heavyweight during his time which made his accomplishments even more impressive. Lyle, for example, was a cut and trim 219lbs. when he fought JQ in early 1973. Contrast that with Arreola, who never seems to get in top shape, for his fight with Adamek. That said, Adamek is not really a true heavyweight in this era. For Quarry's time he would be a bonafide heavyweight though. But he sure can box. Adamek is more consistent and dedicated to his craft than Quarry was. He is maximizing his potential more than Quarry did. How far can Adamek go? Well, I did not expect him to win against Arreola and he proved me wrong. The towering Klits and haye might be another story just as Jerry had no chance with Ali or Frazier.

 

Quarry had no problem with big ,slow men, he dominated, Lyle,Foster, and a horde of others. Quarry was a solid heavyweight but had 2 great ones in an era.

With Adamak its still early to tell he looked good and added 50lbs to his once 175lb frame well vs Areola but not so sure he has the crunch power, that is more of a natural ability and has nothing to do with weight gain. There are many big men with no crunch power, its not so much a size thing than a natural abitily

 

This would be an excellent fight but I give the nod, slightly, to Quarry. I like Adamek and am becoming more and more impressed with him as he keeps fighting. But Quarry seems to be just a notch above him right now but that could change as we see more of Adamek at heavy.

Lets not forget when talking about Adamek's thin but solid heavyweight resume that he also fought good competition at cruiserweight and those guys are similar size to some of Quarry's heavyweight opposition. When you add some of Adamek's cruiserweight fights like Cunningham, Bell, and even Banks than he stacks up a little stronger with Quarry on the competition front but Quarry still fought a much stronger list of fighters. Quarry could be a bit hot and cold and if he comes in off his game Adamek might take it but I would expect Quarry to win a brutal decision.
