Main Events inks Adamek! Main Events has signed world-ranked cruiserweight contender and former WBC light heavyweight champion Tomasz Adamek, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. Main Events and Warrior Promotions (promoter of O'Neil Bell) have begun negotiations for a spring IBF-eliminator showdown between Adamek and Bell. The winner would become the mandatory to IBF champion Steve Cunningham. "Main Events is proud to sign Tomasz," said Duva. "He is a former light heavyweight champion and soon to be world cruiserweight champion." Adamek (33-1, 22 KOs) has stopped 15 opponents within the first three rounds. The 31-year-old Zywiec, Poland native captured the vacant WBC light heavyweight championship on May 21, 2005, when he decisioned Paul Briggs (W 12). He defended the title twice before losing to Chad Dawson on Feb 3, 2007 (L 12). Since moving to cruiserweight he is 2-0, 1 KO. Adamek is also the IBO Cruiserweight Champion and is ranked #6 in the IBF and #7 in the WBA. Main Events and Ziggy Promotions will co-promote Adamek. So who wins? I'll go with Adamek by UD.
Hard to pick. Power is on Bell's side, speed is on Adamek's. Bell is a lot bigger and has a big heart. Adamek's stamina is good however I haven't seen him fight 12 rounds at CW. So there's too many unanswered question here. I'd pick Bell if they'd fight today but I'm not sure how good he is in 2008.
I think Bells knocks this guy out cold. Adamek doesn't have the best defense. He is fairly tough guy who can slug with Paul Briggs, but he won't be able to take Bell's punches. I see an early KO within 4 rounds.
I don't know if it'll be that easy, but Bell hung in there with Jean Marc Mormeck twice, and weathered his storm in both fights to come back in the late rounds, once KOing him. Now I feel Mormeck is both a stronger puncher and better boxer at Cruiser than Adamek, and people seem to forget Bell's knockout ratio at this weight. It could be possible for Bell to lose this because of the long layoff, but if not, Adamek goes to sleep.
