Adamek vs Cunningham Post fight interview.

Cunningham seems to be a nice dude I hope the rematch happens he deserves it.. Good luck to both fighters in the future!

 

Like I said before Cun ningham's whole demeanor and his team and supporters were discusting to me.He was talking like he won and was the main man in a rematch and that he has a God given right to a rematch and this was a fluke.And those bums yelling ''rematch'',''rematch'' in the back were annoying too.Class act by Adamek though.

 

why not a rematch? it was an entertaining close fight that imo and many many others deserves a rematch.. what other fight at cruiser do you rather watch ?

 

Not saying I don't want a rematch but it's disturbing how Cunningham immmediately thinks he has a rematch given that easy to him.Did Adamek get a shot at the title immediately after he lost to Dawson?No,he had to work for it.

 

It came down to $$ not Cunningham/King refusing to fight sooner.

Two problems with what Cunningham said. Again,

* "big Polish head" (3:17 in), and then some idiot in the crowd laughs. Do not say junk like this, it makes you look stupid. If Adamek or someone had said "big American head" or "big black head," people would be rightfully outraged. Foolish thing for Cunningham to say. Again, I'm not saying that Steve has bad intentions here, but it's very disrespectful, especially when the guy with the big head put you on your ass 3 times and took your belt. Phrases like this reinforce the idea that Americans don't get it, don't respect fighters from other countries and that's why they're losing their competitiveness in the sport

* "he shouldn'tve beat me" (4:38 in) Garbage. He beat you, clearly, and you deserved to get beat. You got taken out of your gameplan and dropped three times. You lost. Had you fought a smarter fight, you might have kept your title. Have respect, especially if you think you want an immediate rematch

Steve seems like a good dude that would be fun to hang with, and my two comments here are, admittedly, nitpicking with his remarks. However, the entire "I deserve an immediate rematch, I shouldn'tve lost" tone isn't necessarily in his best interests. The 'big Polish head' thing and similar statements, though I know it was meant in no bad way whatsoever, should be left out of any future press conferences.

 

If you go back this year and read all the articles Cunn has been doing it has been him promoting the Cruiserweight division. He has been doing his best and letting people know that there is another division beside LH and Heavywieght. If you only knew what a fighter goes through for preperations for a fight and then put on an amazing fight between both guys. And it was as entertaining as a boxing match could be why wouldn't a fighter say rematch:huh I don't think there was no disrespect coming from Cunningham and his friends/family/corner or whoever. They where expressing how they felt.
Did you ever play a competetive sport? If you did and you lost a championship game you would want a rematch right? Especially if the game/match was an incredible event.

 

Is that a slap to the polish people? I don't know? To his credit I'm sure he meant no direct attack. I know for a fact he is not that type of person. He is a good person that 24/7 devotes his time speaking in schools, churches, and camps. I think that he was more talking about his IRON chin. But i'm sure looking back he probably wish he could take that back.

 

Steve definitely didn't mean anything by it, it was almost like a term of endearment to a guy he just went to war with, but it's not something he's going to want to say again.

It's tough to have perfect word choice right after a tough fight, especially one in which you didn't fight the fight you wanted to and you dropped your belt. I can't be super hard on Steve here. Really, he seems like a cool dude and I hope things go well for him. Pavlik whined like a baby after the Hopkins loss, and most competitive people do similarly if you talk to them 5 minutes after a defeat. So, you can't over analyze these things too much, I believe. I just wanted to point those two things out for others.

I respect Steve, he made a name for himself and fought a crowd-pleasing fight. I'm sorry he had to deal with the booing (which I felt was for the one judge who scored the fight for him) during his post-fight interview. That was a joke and wrong. I like his personality and I hope he has a chance to fight for the title again soon and get a return bout with Adamek at some point in the future. Boxing could use more guys like him.

 

If you know Steve, please tell him he's a credit to the sport and the game needs more guys like him. He's humble, you can tell he's a good guy and kind, pious (religious/giving praise to God) and just likable and charismatic. I came down hard on him at first when going back and forth with other posters, but if the sport was made up of Steve Cunninghams it would be in very good hands. I'm going over his remarks with a fine comb here, but it's clear he's a good man and he has a lot to offer the sport. All the best to him and for his career. :good

By the way, I'm not a person who is hung up on guys that are religious and/or humble, but you can tell Steve has both things in abundance. Many fans and writers get too caught up in those kinds of traits for my own tastes. However, Steve's presentation of his religion and his sense of respect seem genuine, and so I think that makes them more endearing or compelling.
