Tell me about it. Guida was not laying and praying - partly because Pettis wouldn't let him coast like that but more because he was always looking to improve position and create opportunities where he could do damage. Guida was great last night - showed tremendous conditioning to wrestle all-out like that for 15minutes without getting tired and superb submission defense to avoid getting submitted or swept from the bottom. This was not the Torres fight where the man on the bottom was the busier. Guida was always able to maintain top control and rarely looked in danger from Pettis' submissions. The only thing it has in common was that it was an exciting fight that should remind us all that the ground game can be just as exciting as the standup. If you didn't like that fight, well to be honest you might as well **** off and watch kickboxing.
**** off moron. Its called mixed martial arts for a reason. What, should wrestlers just stopping using tactics that work because SOME grapplers and strikers aren't good enough to hang wth them?
Its hilarious isn't it...because I could have sworn that it used to be that the casual fans were morons who just wanted to see dudes stand and bang but only the internet fans appreciated all elements of the fight. Now we get live crowds cheering entertaining ground wars but idiots on message boards talking as if wrestling is killing the sport.
Clay did what he had to do too win. The UFC is set up that way at this time. Take downs seem to be worth more then a fighter that scrambles to his feet. Wasn't happy with the fight, but that is the way the game is right now. Anthony was looking to try and make a fight happen off his back, but also did controll one of Clays left arm. If anything, then need to change how long they let someone sit on their guy and just shoulder bump them. Wasn't happy last night...but after looking at it again it was a smart fight from Clay. Joe R just need to shut up sometimes with the screaming like the fight is an ATG.
You **** off, youre just as bad as a wrestling denier, you pick every wrestler every time. Ya some can dominate, there is no denying, but a wrestler who is not well rounded will always be at risk to fall in other areas
Exactly! Id much rather watch Alexander v Kimbo any day, those to were stand and bang warriors, not highly skilled ground fighting pussies with stamina for days
Nope try again troll. I mean just from UFC 130 I scored Torres as the winner of the Johnson fight, picked Stann and Jackson to win their fights despite both having shown problems defending takedowns in the past. I mean **** my favourite fight from last year was Silva vs Sonnen which was a great advert for what a fighter can do off their back. And to be honest my favourite fight of this year was BJ Penn vs Jon Fitch when Penn exposed that Fitch is one-dimensional grinder who can't do anything when taken out of his half-guard comfort zone. And if you actually took the time to read what I wrote, I never said that wrestlers don't need to be well-rounded. That would clearly be absurd. And its not some wrestlers do well, its virtually every single champion in a currently alive major promotion.
You know what I think's hilarious - Guida is getting all this **** for laying and praying whereas last week we were all outraged that Torres didn't get the decision against Johnson. This after Torres shat the bed in perhaps the most disappointing fight of 2011 so far by just fighting behind the jab for three rounds and refusing to go in for the finish against a clearly outmatched opponent. Hell you know if he had any takedown defense he'd have probably done the same against Johnson last week as well.
