Add Steward to growing list of people against the catchweight king

They don't pass the smell test, certainly in the case of De La Hoya and Hatton. So DLH had a better than 60/40 purse split with Pacquiao, but Pacquiao somehow had enough leverage to insert a rehydration clause? Hatton and Pacquiao bitched forever about purse split, eventually ending somewhere around 50/50, but Hatton agreed to come to the ring at a weight that he'd never fought at before, despite always having to dehydrate about ten pounds for a weigh-in. That sounds pretty nuts. Neither of them needed the money, neither were getting career high paydays, both could have got the same sort of case against other opponents.

 

Oh yeah, 'never' might have been a misstatement. Dammit, this ***** meme that Pacquiao's career started when he fought David Diaz is catching...

Agreed, Oscar would have told emmanuel to go kill himself if he was demanding that kind of dumb ****. Cotto on the other hand was treated in a disgraceful manner during their negotiations and is under Top Rank.

Exactly. If these rumours were true, the respective trainers/fighters would have raised the issue...

• Nacho says weight weren't even an issue, and that the little Filipino was just too good on the night. Oscar meanwhile does say he was past his best. But nothing about a rehydration clause
• Floyd Senior instead invents steroid rumours to discredit Pac's win over Hatton, not a supposed rehydration clause
• Cotto and his team agreed to a 145 catchweight fight, but made a big issue out of putting a title on the line. You would have at least expected them to also voice their concerns over a rehydration clause if there ever was one.

Point blank- If Mayweather puts his feet in time with his mouth and goes at Pacquiao, he'll get KTFO. Nothing personal to you, spud1, you seem OK to me. I'm just saying, Mayweather would get KTFO vs Pacquiao.

Pac only taints his own legacy.

What is considered all good and well at present - most likely wont be
thought of the same later down the track.

I dare say that critics of Pac will be quick to point out the catchweight
issue - throw in the unwillingness to take a simple needle and theres
definately going to be a lot of grey areas regarding Pac.

Will be hard to place the guy in ATG lists.

If Pac did care about his legacy, he'd be fighting Mayweather, erase all doubt.

I think Catchweights become a joke when say Pac fights Cotto at 145
for the weightweight title - which is a 147 title.
Pacs fans like to put a positive spin on it and that might get by atm,
but in due time it will be seen for what it is.
