Seeing as it looks like Barrera’s career is final over, I took the opportunity to have a look back at some of his fights down the years.

After watching the Morales and McKinney classics, I dusted of my old copy of the Hamed fight, and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed watching this fight.

I always disliked Naseem, from his cockiness and complete lack of respect to fellow fighters, to his general lack of social skills. So when he finally fought an elite fighter in, or near his prime, I had reasons to be cheerful.

Re-watching the fight reminded me of how much I had enjoyed seeing Hamed bullied, out-fought, out-skilled and humiliated. It really was man against boy, teacher against pupil etc. Marco made Hamed look stupid.

I can’t remember watching a fight and smiling so much, and for that, mucho gracias Marco, enjoy your retirement, you’ve earned it.
