is this how your supposed to train on a heavy bag?

im used to seeing fighters get tought technique and actually train on the bag...like this...

Those are two types. You can do both.

One practices your power and combination, Tyson.

The other, Stevens, stamina, movement and hands speed.

I don't know for sure but maybe he's training body rotation, perhaps endurance?

I see far more examples of the Stevenson style of hitting the bag then Tyson's. Whos do you think is closer to an actual fight? I'd say Stevenson's. Tyson's is extremely slow and one burst then nothing... which is actually how he fought after round 4.. so whatever

yes i guess what i was saying is, in the tyson video, you see kevin rooney there explaining everytime he does something wrong, the reposiioning his feet, ect...i just see alot of technique being taught...

where as stevenson seems to be working like he is doing the stairmaster, with no coach in sight, it just seems soo unprofessional i guess...when i look at that tyson video everything is on movement and position and balance...the power in bursts is just tysons natural way so i dont know if that comes into question in this

Think of their styles too.. Stevenson is a long armed southpaw counterpuncher. Tyson is a short reached aggressive counterpuncher.

Stevenson can make people eat leather on their way in.. where as Tyson needs to slip then explode.

If you notice in the Stevenson video is he actually working on his counter left hand (his rear hand). He is trying to throw it fast and hand

I used to wonder why they did it also until I tried it myself. Personally speaking, it helps with your endurance and drilling your punching technique if you're throwing your punches properly. Also it helps very well with your fluidity.

I think it's best if you mix power shots to go along with it though especially when you're starting to tire.

I usually train on the bag as if I'm fighting an opponent, but I'll also do this style of bag work from time to time as a supplement. Stevenson looks ugly as hell on it though

    True ..

These so call fan kill me with that ****.. Its the same reason pro football players do not go full contact in practice ( so none of the player get injured)

Hitting a heavy bag with pull power raises the risk of hand injury .

stevenson seems to be alot faster on the bag than fmj, but fmj seems to put more effort into those punches and better combo mix up

also of note....stevenson 30 days from the fight with fonfara is 176.6 lbs....

this means at any time stevenson can drop to 168....also means that he doesnt cut any weight to fight at 175, from what i know stevenson walks around natural weight at 182

so i guess if he dont have to cut weight, he should naturally be faster than those who need to cut 15-20 lbs, and his endurance should be much better also...so if he keeps working on his speed, it should be fun to watch..

ppl always think tyson's power ko ppl, but it was his combo and speed, if you dont see the punch its lights out

yeah that is true. What I've seen of Mayweather's training though, is he usually starts off pretty slow on the mitts or bag and goes a long time without a break and then seems to pick up the pace.

at 6:00 into it, he starts to let off the power on the bag

i dont know about bigger, but he is definately putting in a much better workout in my eyes...less slapping and more technique....stevenson looked like he was hitting withthe same power as floyd...but with his power you know he can give alot more, and better movement too, a bit of foot work and movement with angles is what im used to seeing, like floyd is doing.....not just standing in front and slapping it....but if its for speed and endurance i can see how it can be PART of a training but thats all i ever see him do in his bag vids....maybe he is hiding his real training from the public?
