It looks like the wheels might be in motion for a potential fight between the two.

"If he wants to fight I'm ready. He is a good fighter. He beat Hopkins. If I beat him though I don't want anybody saying he's a bum."

"EVERYONE I fight they say he's a bum I don't want people telling me the same ****. I don't want people telling me this guy is a ****ing bum. I will go to New York. I have no problem going to New York."

Well let's see what happens next. I think after a year Smith just had, he's very deserving of a Title shot, so let's get it on.

A very live fight, but I still think AS might have too much for Smith. Unless he's slipped a bit with age. Mind you Adonis is a spring chicken(son) compared to Smith's last opponent...

Just like I said in the other thread , Stevenson by KO in 4 rounds .

But Im very disappointed in Stevenson TBH .

He is so quick to call out Smith and jump in the ring with him .

Yet he doesn't want to show Kovalev or Beterbiev that same kind of love .

That's Lame and it reveals a lot about him .

    I dont care about Stevenson.

I gave up on that guy years ago.

    To me he's completely irrelevant.

Smith is an easy win for Stevenson, so I'm not surprised he's eager to take the fight and get another KO on his resume.
Rather than Smith taking a fight he can't win I'd prefer for him to match-up better, ala, Whyte-Chisora so we can see a good evenly matched competitive bout.
Put the newbie in with Williams Jr. or Berrera, and it should be more entertaining.

In all fairness he did try to get Kovalev in the ring the last time but Kovalev's team had other plans. Beterbiev I'm not so sure about.

I'll be cheering for Smith Jr. but Stevenson will probably take it.

Stevenson would be a big favorite and probably stop him in the middle rounds. Smith would come to fight and make it fun while it lasts but I can't see him beating Stevenson, even a 39 year old one.

Stevenson really needs to face top contenders though instead of facing guys like Smith. If he was fighting 3 times a year and facing some of the best in his division then a guy like Smith is fine but if you're the light heavyweight champion and the best guy you've defended against in your last 5-6 defenses is possibly Smith then something's wrong with that.

Stevenson straight-lefts Smith Jr. back to his 9-5.

This is all true... BUT. At least with his last opponent Williams Jr. and Smith if the fight is made... There's that feeling in the air that an upset could happen, and while the fights don't mean a whole lot on paper they're still good from a pure entertainment perspective. A big step up from the pure **** Stevenson has given us with Bika, Karpency and Sukhotsky... I'll actually be looking forward to this one if it's made.

The amount you guys discount Stevenson is insane, whether you like him
or not, I'm certain he outboxes and stops Smith.

Nobody at LHW is going to beat Stevenson sans, Kovalev or Ward.

Obviously Stevenson is the favourite, more likely than not his left hand finds Smith sooner or later and rocks him. But I'll be cheering hard for Joe Smith Jr !!!

Also, Stevenson's getting old; one day age will catch up with him, and it may be this time!
