Well kind of says something that it's never been made.... Meanwhile Stevenson is 38, has a style centered around athleticism and speed. He's going to fall off badly soon. If he knew what was good for him he'd make the big fights NOW instead of facing these joke opponents.
He kinda blew it with Kovalev so unless they stay the course with the very tenuous agreement to meet next year provided neither loses, Stevenson may well end up painting himself into a corner where his only chances for a comparable or bigger payday will be subjecting himself to a stylistically unfavorable match-up like a Ward or B-Hop. (though of the pair, B-Hop in his fifties may be a better risk for reward proposition than prime Ward)
Ward actually has skill unlike Stevenson who just has athleticism and speed. He can do a lot more than throw a cross. Also almost 7 years Stevenson Jr. with a style that obviously ages better than Stevensons.
No he wouldn't. Are you kidding? Bernard can do whatever the hell strikes his fancy. You really think Oscar would evict him from GBP at this point, with Bernard the last remaining big-name "face" of the promotion (with Barrera and Mosley having parted ways) and having been a partner for a decade?
Not to discredit Kovalev's boxing ability, because personally I believe it's generally underrated, but do you think Hopkins was so thoroughly outboxed due to being gun shy? Weary of Kovalev's power?
This. Kovalev took it easy on Hopkins out of respect. As soon as Hopkins tried to clown Kovalev he almost got killed. Stevenson would not show Hopkins the same respect. Hopkins needs to retire.
Could be, though Hopkins never feared any punchers before. Even against Pavlik, dropping a bit in weight for the first time in a while, his legs were already older and stiffer than in his MW prime and he still waltzed in with utmost confidence even knowing he couldn't move like he used to, and showed Pavlik no respect and even kept his customary spoiling tactics like holding to a minimum. Tarver, Pascal, Cloud, Dawson - all moderate to big punchers Hopkins faced in his "old man years", and he never batted an eyelash. Granted the Krusher is a whole different league of power than all of them.
BHop wins by KO:deal Oh and I did almost the same exact thread a few months ago. http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?p=17538006
The fact that we're even talking about a nearly 51 year old Hopkins taking this fight, never mind winning it, is a testament to the athlete and the man. I think he would be best placed to retire now after the long lay off but he would still have enough to cause Stevenson some problems.
