    ...I think. :!:

Boxrec still has Adonis listed as meeting TBA on the date, which led me to believe that maybe they were leaving the door open for Dirrell should he change his mind. (especially since last I checked there hadn't been any follow-up confirmation beyond Dan Rafael's initial blurb about the replacement on Monday)

Several sources are now reporting it as being the chief support to Cloud vs. Pascal, and George himself has talked about it through his social media profiles.

    Fro Yvon Micehl FB :
"It's done. We have a deal. The kid hasn't signed the bout agreement yet, but Yvon and I have a deal," said Margules. "We've got a deal, we're just waiting for the signature to come back. As far as Don and I, and an agreement, that's done."

Facing a gifted puncher like Stevenson (18-1-0, 15KO) – who is trained by Emanuel Steward and has won five straight, all by knockout – on the road isn’t the most alluring offer. Not only is George willing to face him but equally willing to do whatever it takes to escape the Bell Centre in Montreal with a win.
“Stevenson is a very talented kid with a big punch,” George acknowledges. “I will come very well prepared and willing to go to war.”

Dirrell must feel like a punk that someone stepped in so quickly and willingly almost as soon as he backed out, and if George does manage to land a lucky haymaker or even give Stevenson fits and make him look bad he's going to feel like the world's dopiest SOB since the bead-lover who sold Manhattan.

It isn't a ton of time for an epic training camp or anything, but he's a world class athlete keeping himself fit on the regular at the Mayweather Boxing Club. How long does he need to get in proper running shape? Cardio 5 hours a day, boom, ready.

What happened to #hard work, #dedication? :boxx

Stevenson paid his debt and is now another man (wife and childs).
Saw him on a tv show and he looked genuinely ashamed of what he did.
Didn't try to make any excuses...

After that its all about whether you believe in social reinsertion or not...

    I don't, as it happens...once a monster...

But yeah, George has also done his time (all six months...although to be fair he was a minor at the time of his actions, unlike Stevenson) and made overtures of contrition and begun a new life and plans to start a family with his very attractive girlfriend.

If the slate can be said to be wiped clean for one, it is for both.

I agree, partly, except I don't think there was any legitimate injury. Perhaps a concussion, but keeping him away from punchers is likely the reason for this withdrawal.
No stepaside $$ needed to be paid, b/c Dirrel pretty simply put it, that if the terms werent his way, he wasnt' fighting.

He's not going to make 50K+ for any fight until he fights some other contenders first, and he seems to be all to reluctant to do any such thing.:rofl

The real joke of it is that beating Stevenson in this eliminator would have been the magic key to open the door directly to what Dirrell supposedly wants most - a crack at avenging his loss to Froch.

"Oh no, only five weeks to prepare? :err Nah, not worth it to me..."

If he was that serious about wanting to square it away with Froch, you'd think he would take this on five days notice.

I'll bet Anthony Dirrell would have taken the Stevenson bout.

See, Dirrell? Straight to work before the documents are signed, plenty of time...

Isn't SRR said to have given his wife a slap or eleven here and there? :think LaMotta too, even more so? I thought that most of our Classic forum sages and indeed boxing historians far and wide agreed they both did such things. :? I thought that's why you brought their names up here, to be ironic:

So the first half of my response:

There is a bit of a difference between your typical drunken spousal row of yesteryear culminating in a sass-quashing backhand across the kisser (although that is itself unconscionable)

    - was about Sugar and the Bull...while the rest:

and a ****ing natural born power puncher - currently considered one of the hardest hitters in all of pro boxing at 168lbs, fourteen years later - loading up in cold blood and putting a finisher on the chin of a young girl probably weighing about half what he did with the express goal of rendering them unconscious for sheer amusement.

...refers to one of the multiple heinous acts Adonis Stevenson was convicted of.

...did you not know that about Robinson and LaMotta? :!:

Was it a total coincidence that you mentioned those two? :yikes

Have I essentially "ruined Santa" for you in boxing terms? :err
