Hey guys. I havent seen a whole lot of stevenson thus far. I watched a bit of his fight with aaron pryor jr on youtube and iv seen a couple devastating ko's. There is little doubting his power at this stage but im wondering if anybody here has seen his ko loss to darnell boone? How bad was it? Should the referee have stepped in or was it a tad early? or was he in a bad way? Anyone have any recollection of him getting hurt in any other fights they have seen? Just wondering cos he fights noe gonzalez tonight and the uruguayan is 6/1 to score the knockout. You would have to figure given that the fight is in montreal that gonzalez will be gunning for a ko. He is a big strong super middleweight and his only loss was on the cards against felix sturm. Unfortunately he has few wins of note as a guide. He has 20 ko's out of 28wins and looks technically pretty solid although a bit slow. Counters well with the left hook and has a decent right hand which will both come in handy against a southpaw. Anyone have any thoughts? Specifically id like to here about stevensons chin as the title suggests. :)

I've only seen Gonzales vs Sturm, and it's tough to tell in that fight if he has the kindof speed and power to trouble a surging world level SMW.
My guess is that he doesn't.

As for Stevensons chin it seemed more like a caught cold or off guard moment that set up the stoppage vs Boone. I've wanted to see that rematch since it went down, but Stevensons not looking back on that as he's levels above Boone before and after the incident.

Stevenson takes a punch well enough. Don't think there's too many guys out there that'll have that kindof win over him again.....and Boone, well, he's always been a banger and Stevenson aint the first or last hopeful whose chin will be thoroughly tested by him either.:good

Yeah Boone is that sort of dangerous journeyman likely to do something like that, i guess we only have to look at his fight with andre ward. He caught andre pretty nicely and hurt him pretty badly. I agree that gonzalez' speed looks a bit suspect. But he seems to be very calm in there and has good timing in the fights iv watched. Thanks for the info on stevensons punch resistance anyhow

I've been trying to find footage of the Boone fight recently, but this was all I could find...

Thanks man, thats useful information. Looked like a big shot, if he was able to get to his feet and looked capable of continuing after that then his powers of recovery are likely very good.

It was a real KO. :yep No "partisanship" by the official.

Of course, it means about as much now as Prescott KO1 Khan.

Both Khan and Stevenson have left their conquerors eating their dust as their career trajectories have carried them far, far away from that level.

Both Khan and Stevenson would dominate in rematches with Prescott and Boone.

Stevenson doesn't have a perfect chin by any means. He's viper-quick, though - and a much better fighter than he was a couple of years ago.

That said, Alcoba's sole loss is a bit less of a blemish than his. :!:

I did read on another forum just now that while adonis did make it to his feet he shortly therafter stumbled backward towards the ropes at which time the referee halted proceedings. This came from a fan claiming to have been there who said the stoppage was correct.

I have no doubt that you are correct IntentionalButt as regards Stevensons improvement, as ell as his speed and that he would destroy Boone in a rematch however his chin still has to be questioned following that loss, as you said yourself it is far from perfect.

    :good

Alcoba has moderately heavy hands, and if he could land flush on Adonis that could come into play - but IMO he's just too slow in comparison. Stevenson has evolved into a serpentine style of darting in and out with cobra-like strikes while evading counters pretty well.

Yeah my major worry for Gonzalez would be his handspeed, but he has decent timing from what iv seen. Havent managed to get a look at the sturm fight though. He seems very calm and has solid enough defence. Id be interested to hear how he looked in that regard against the supremely accurate sturm. Can you fill me in?

Stevenson looks sharper than before. His punches (I know, it's only training stuff but still) come hard and fast. He will beat Gonzalez pretty easily if he improved his footwork. Stevenson was always unbalanced when he threw his shots a couple of years ago but I think it has changed now. We still have to see him against a real good gatekeper. I dont think he's ready for a championship fight and a couple more fights would do him some good but the way boxing works today, he won't have choice but to make a huge step. If he's lucky, he'll face Anthony Dirrell for the WBC strap. Then he could control his destineee.
